-If Starbucks cant say "Merry Christmas"
-If Kids cant say "GOD Bless America" in schools
-If the word midget has been replaced by "Little People"
-If we can't call someone "Fat" but now have to use the word "Obese"......

Than how can Oakley still refer to their options as "Regular" or "ASAIN FIT"!?!?!? Just because someone needs a special nose piece to push them away from their cheeks, doesn't mean they are automatically ASIAN!!! :hello::D;)

Just to clarify, i am Asian and also prefer an asian noaw piece with regular glasses. I'M TOTALLY JOKING, JUST IN CASE SOMEONE THINKS I'M SERIOUSLY RANTING ABOUT THIS. BUT, I do find it funny that they still refer to their option as Asian fit as if the only people who need it is a Guy or girl in a rice field wearing a bamboo conical hat :p

Dood, dood, seriously, dood.

Interesting you bring this up cos I heard an old guy use Oriental a few days ago.

Anyway, let me know when your "buddy" is selling a pair of Asian-fit Oakleys as I live in the San Gabriel Valley where 40% of the population is from the "Far East" and most of my riding pals are Azian.

Ya, but what else to call them?

Less nose bridge fit?

In asia does oakley sell those as regular and regular as anglo fit?

I don't personally care, but narrow fit and wide fit would be just as effective.

yo! It's 2015. orientals are rugs.

Kinda like Beijing locals with English words tattooed on their arms?

There was about a ten year period where no Oakleys fit my face. You Euro heritage guys with huge beaks can wear the plutonite lenses, but not me. So Rudy and their nose pads got all my business until I found out I can fit radars...plain ordinary NON-ASIAN FIT radars! It was a miracle.

Radar yes, Jawbone no.

Is not India in Asia as well? I mean all those 1.25 billion people are still Asians and do not need the Asian fit.

I was thinking about "ASAIN FIT" today after texbike was asking about annual physicals. I use to have a Nigerian Doctor. This guy had huge hands and fingers like small penises. I needed to get a different doctor, female, Asain fit is better.

Overshare. I can't unsee what just popped into my head.

It's not just the nosepiece, the wingspan of the two lenses is smaller than regular fit too. I will be putting up a pair for sale on the classifieds shortly.

Yes - maybe they should rename their 'Asian Fit' as regular, and call the wider models 'Relaxed Fit' or 'Husky'...

I still fail to see why "Oriental" is offensive. And I'm Asian, born and raised!!!!

You know, I didn't mind the tone of your post at all until that last bit. And I'm letting you know that, as someone who prefers Oakley's Asian Fit products because, well, they fit my Asian face better, I have no problem with the company using that term to describe that product. I do, however, take exception to your generalization that Asians are nothing more than folks toiling in rice paddies. Your "disclaimer", btw, does not really do much to cover for your bias.

Get with the times, indeed.

That missing piece of information changes the whole tone of your original post, then.

Sorry if I came off too butthurt about it. I was born and grew up in NYC, and now I live in Burlington, VT. Because I don't speak with an accent, there are folks up here who forget that I'm not white (believe it or not) and some of the most outrageous statements come out of their mouths. Gently reminding self-absorbed liberals about their privilege is something that needs to be done more often than I care to do. Not that you're a self-absorbed liberal. Unless you are. In that case, go Bernie! ;)

It's all good bud! Genuinely sorry if it offended you or anyone. I too have had my fair share of slurs and jokes growing up.

Can we leave the political undertones out?

RFC

I've come to the point where I view good faith racial references as a matter of courtesy, not political correctness. As a result, me being me and extroverted, I ask new acquaintances and friends how they prefer I refer to their race because as some point we are going to talk about race. "Do you prefer "black" or "African American?" With that example, the answer is usually "either."

I was at a university reception talking to a good friend of mine, who is a brilliant American born Chinese physicist and cyclist. The issue came up regarding what's wrong with the term Oriental. Both of us were perplexed until we were informed by a British economist that, historically, the term Oriental is synonymous with the idea of the "other." That is, different from "us."

Back on topic, is the nose piece the only different component on Asian fit Oakley glasses? Meaning there is no difference in width, frame bend, etc?

At least for the Split Jacket, they use the same lenses as the "regular" fit.

Slow Eddie
11-11-2015, 08:51 AM
Some models use the same lenses, some don't. In addition to the nose bombs usually being more substantial, the frames are often flatter across the face, which helps them get a bit wider and not pinch at the temples. Consequently, some of the shield-type lenses have to be a little different because of the reduced curvature, so they fit without excessive tension in ithe frame.

Pronunciation: /ˈɔːrɪənt/ /ˈɒrɪənt/
1
(the Orient)
literary The countries of the East, especially East Asia:
the treasures of the Orient

The Orient originally referred to Egypt, the middle east, and then Asia as trading was expanded. Besides the already mentioned comments about derogatory uses in history, its basically a term the West invented to refer to a large group of countries they knew nothing about. Its as if you met someone and referred to them with a generic name like "big nose". Some of your state legislatures have banned the word (http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/09/law-bans-use-of-oriental-in-state-documents/?_r=1) btw.

Personally as an asian, I like the asian-fit nomenclature. They fit well. If anything, it makes me feel more appreciated as the glasses are made for people like me.

And I've never imagined workers doing back breaking labor in rice paddies when someone says the word "asian. Maybe someone more like Genghis Khan. I'm looking forward to seeing my newborn son's mongolian BUTT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_spot). He's got some awesome asian heritage to learn. http://cdnstatic.visualizeus.com/thumbs/36/b5/attore,film,fotografia,japan,mongol,tadanobuasano-36b507864d6ff2b3ff7fd67bcb15ec7b_h.jpg

At one time Oakley stated what the differences were between the two fits. The information may still be on their website.

From what I remember with FlakJackets Asian fit have less curvature to the frame, the bridge is a different width, the temples have a different curvature, larger nose bombs, and the angle of the lens isn't raked as much.

I had one pair of each fit but have since sold the standard as the Asian fit model just works better for me. I have RX lenses in both standard as well as xlj size. With the standard frames I couldn't really wear the xlj shape.

I think Oakley did catch some flak for this. Now called "Asia" fit or "Alternative" fit. I noticed this because I was looking for new oakley prescription glasses recently.
