While the multiple "standards" are irritating--this seems like a decent idea. Bigger diameter spindle for stiffness with threads to prevent creaking. It would also let builders mate bigger tubes at the BB more easily.

Think this will be adopted? I wonder whether Shimano would jump into the ring on this one.

When was the last time you saw Shimano adopt someone else's standard, when they have one (or several) of their own?
