View Full Version : What do you use on your saddle?

Drying/cleaning/lubing/polishing my bike after yesterday's first torrential rain ride of the season, it occurred to me that maybe there's something better for leather saddles than the ArmorAll I've always used.

Mostly just want to keep it in good shape, but bonus points for something that makes it a durably slick.

Whacha using?

Yea, leather - coulda swore I put that in the OP, but I guess I edited it out.

That's what I use on my boots... seems like it'd soften up saddle too much. No??

Not many modern saddles are real leather. So about any leather or synthetic (vinyl) leather cleaner about as good as anything.

Proofide on the Brooks, you can probably use any leather cleaner that's applied to car seats or home upholstery.

I've only used Brooks proofide (Tallow oil, or beef fat) on my SLR Flow's (Selle Italia). I don't know what I would do without it though.

I treat my leather saddles similar to how I treat cast iron cookware. Clean with warm water, oil, and wipe up the excess.

I still had proofide from my old brooks so I use it on the berthoud as well.

On my non "leather" saddles (aka not brooks or berthoud or selle anatomica saddles), I don't use anything.

This works great and leaves no apparent residue or tacky/slippy feel. Know this does not waterproof.

I'm riding modern saddles, which means "Pleather". I'm pretty careful with what I clean them with; I don't want to make them slick and ending up sliding all over when the road gets rough.
Windex works for me.

+1 on Windex for my "faux-leather" saddles.

The guy I bought my Selle Anatomica from was kind enough to include some of their "Saddle Sauce" which seems fine to me but I can see how this saddle will eventually need replacing in a few years.

Hmmm...this thread got me thinking "I spent $120 on my saddle. Maybe I should protect that investment." Lol, I haven't given much thought on salts eating away at the materials. Thanks y'all

My wife is not made of leather. Plus, she would be pissed.
