Has anyone used walz caps before? I'm after a new cap or two for winter, so I picked up up one (made by pace) that is just too tight. Anyone have a recommendation for a cap for, what is apparently, a big head? Looks like walz has medium and large sizes, so I'm thinkin of giving them a try.

ps: I wear a 7 1/4 hat. my head isn't THAT big.

I've got a relatively big melon as well, and the large sized Paceline cycling cap made by walz fits me perfectly!

I also find Pace caps too tight. I've been happy with Kucharik:

Fits my big head wonderfully. Basic, cheap cotton cap. They used to have more designs (Campy, Cinelli, Columbus, ec.) but it looks like they scaled back.

I like the large size Waltz caps. Good fit, great materials (no shrinking or bleeding in the washer) nice assortment of patterns/colors. Only bad thing I can say about Waltz is I find their wool caps a bit too scratchy...

I've heard great things about Randi Jo Fabrications

A much quieter pallet but more fabric and size choices... and nice wool options for colder riding. I'm going to try one of theirs next time...

Yep. Big head here as well... unfortunately there's not much in there.

Paceline cap (tutti frutti) fits just fine. Thanks again, Jason.

Also, the Waltz guys will just make what you need. I had a set of caps made for a team and one guy has what is technically referred to as a huge noggin. Waltz made one huge cap for him. Give them a call.

Twin 6 caps are good.
Also, they are not bulky so my helmet fits the same with the cap on or off.

I don't have a walz but I hate pace caps, way too small. I really like the way rapha caps fit my head.

I wear a large helmet, and my Walz caps are both "small/medium," and plenty roomy.
Go figure.

I wear a 7 1/8 or 7 1/4 hat and a small/medium Walz fits perfect.

7 3/8 - 7 1/2 here. using rapha.

older ones - size large
newer ones - "one size'" - may need to try a few but they fit

Rothera for me...sized large and I like the fact that the sweatband is 1" high and sewn completely around the cap. That allows me to wear the cap backwards when I don't need the protection that the visor offers. Gary will sew any color and stripe combination that you ask for as well...nice guy and great quality.

I have several Reddots caps and the large size fits my big 7 3/4 coconut very well.

Bob - thanks for the Rothera link. Hadn't heard of them before.

This blows my mind (in the best possible way):

Only about 200 people on this site have Walz caps :D

I wear a 7 1/4 hat as well. I can wear either a sm/med or lg/xl in Walz caps. I prefer the lg/xl because it has some more room, but reality is either will work. Order the lg/xl from Walz or Rothera and you'll be happy.

Similar problem as 'one-size-fits-most' caps do not fit me. I have a very hard time finding caps!

I have a wool Walz in the larger size and I liked it a lot. Wore it for awhile. But, the wool is kinda thin, and the brim is kinda big.

I got a wool Rothera on a Cycling-Cap Tuesday sale. The wool is thicker, and the brim is smaller but angles out very nicely when worn. I wrote a note in the order for Gary to stitch up a cap slightly bigger than usual, and it fits perfectly. I've worn this cap pretty much every day since I've got it.... the Walz pales in comparison!

Now, I am stuck with the mission of finding a new winter cap. I have an old Rothera winter cap, which is very very nice, but it has an older brim style that blocks vision. I wrote him asking for a new winter cap with his new brim, but nada yet.....

Randi Jo's offerings look very attractive; I like the simpler, basic looks and wool earflaps is a big plus. And 4 different sizes to choose from! But I don't have any first-'head' experience with them. Will probably place an order soon.

Anyways, my vote for you would be a Rothera with a request for a larger size. I kind of wish I had ordered two of the limited wool one I got....

I purchased two summer caps from Randi Jo this fall.
One is linen, one is linen/cotton.
Both are well made and fit well.
