Anyone seen this before or have experience with it?

Interesting concept

This is on almost every surly ever. I have one on my fat bike. It works.

Storck's have a similar setup.

Quite a few TT bikes have them and they are a big PITA to get a wheel out

Or add disc brake tabs...

A HUGE pain to take out and put back in. Better solution is the new MDS dropouts that Surly put out. Swappable dropouts.

varying tire size was not the motivation for that Vanilla but rather single/fixie to geared convertible.

This would probably work better with sliding dropouts.

I'm starting a SS MTB frame build with those dropouts. Going to hack off the derailleur tab. I did a hardtail earlier this year with them. Other than having to get creative with jigging the dropouts without the slider part attached (for brazing onto the seat- and chainstays), it works quite well.

Sliders or Black Cat Swingers are by far the better solution for chain tension on a single-speed/fixed bike. Track dropouts with a hanger make getting the wheel out difficult, and the shifting quality will vary with placement of the wheel if running geared.

Vanilla was big on those in 2007/2008. I think, thankfully, they've moved on.

Super-duper-exquisitely pretty bike though.

For singlespeed, probably, but not fixed. Way easier with track ends, especially if gear changes are frequent.

Blackcat swings have issues as well. I know of a few custom builders who won't use them, because of slippage issues. Paragon sliders seem pretty solid, though.

Thanks folks. For some reason I did not equate these to the sliders with hangers I used to seeing. oh doh!

Thanks nick, I understand that scenario - the ebay copy threw me down a different path

my first ventana full suspension tandem had rear facing dropouts - the easiest way to pull the wheel was to remove the QR completely. with the nut and the lever out of the way, there is no more conflict getting past the chain

that carved V dropout is the "limiting" aesthetic. no way he uses paragons on his frames.
