This has been bothering me for a while. I've noticed that none of my screwdrivers are a particularly good fit for Shimano limit screws. I can certainly make do with what I have, but every-single-time I wish I had a better tool for the job. I did some searching and all I came up with was this similar thread (http://www.velocipedesalon.com/forum/f40/shimano-limit-screws-35419.html) from across the hall. Someone recommended a Klein or Felo #2. Others recommended a #1 with the tip filed down.

Any recommendations from our great forum?

The only tool you need for Shimano:

Just recently picked up a Shimano/Vessel labeled JIS #2 screwdriver from a LBS that got some in for their mechanics. 15 bucks, but it works *perfectly*

Search out a JIS screwdriver. Any one will do.

Fitting that Shimano screws would use the Japanese Industrial Standard!

I have a Snap-On number two that fits perfectly.
Good screwdrivers are a must.

Cabinet or gun screwdriver, they have parallel ground faces.

JIS is the ticket.

I got several Vessel brand drivers for the moto-bike here:

Megadora is very nice, with great hand feel.

Shimano needs to revise those and go to
square or star drive or even hex. It's been a weak link in their
design forever, imo
They probably feel that those other options will collect gunk but
surely there must be a better way.

They did that with their DI2 setups. All of the limit screws take 2mm hex keys. Muuuuch better!

Wow, I thought I knew a fair amount about bike tools, but never knew about JIS screwdrivers until now.

FWIW, do a search for "Hozan JIS screwdriver" on Amazon, and they have some sets at a reasonable price.

Dave, who is not fond of JIS headsets

My JIS screwdriver that I ordered on Amazon came yesterday and I could not have been more amused. Its a very nice screwdriver and exactly what I thought it would be, but that is only half the fun.

In an age of two day free shipping and instant downloads, this was something entirely different. It came from some guy in Tokyo, was shipped in a paper grocery bag he turned into a envelop with some tape, and took about 5 weeks to get here. I have this image of a guy sitting at his kitchen table late at night, making shipping envelopes after he put away the groceries, and then strapping them to a sea turtle and sending him across the pacific to find a post office in San Diego. I enjoyed getting the package so much I ordered two different sizes today...they should be here just before Christmas.

Everything these days is so immediate and fleeting, I think every now and then you should have 6 weeks of anticipation ended in a flurry of excitement when you pull a super cool screwdriver out of a package that looks like your 9 year old made it for your birthday present. What a nice change of pace.
