No way.
A clean car is a happy car. Same thing with bikes.

Good therapy. You get to use your hands and have something to show for it at the end. (Gorgeous old Paletti!)

Yes, if you are poser.
No, if you are a real bike aficionado.

And .... it'll be easier to clean the next time, too!

No absolutely not, in fact you should be getting a new merit badge soon enough. My eyes got a lot bigger and I licked my chops when I saw that pic, though I have been consuming some funky grape juice on this here fine evening.

I'll take the contrary view, yes it is a poor use of time. However, I do enjoy wasting time that way.

If you've got time to do both, then no. But if it were a choice between riding and polishing...

Especially a clean, red bike!! :bike:
Sweet ride!! Love it! Haven't heard of that brand. Can you give some info and where you got it?

What he said, it is therapy, a hobby, mechanical meditation, both the care of bike and the ride.

I always thought it was part of the prep if you have time--a little polishing, and it gives you a chance to give the bike a look over to see that everything is where it should be and doing what it should do.

Football season!
Have all kinds of time sunday 1-11, monday 8-11, and thursday 8-11 to perform bike maintenance, followed by necessary clean up of the living room :(
Already swapped brake pads, chains, cables, cleaned/polished bikes, swapped parts/fiddle with components, etc.

One of the reasons I got a Ti bike was so I wouldn't have to fuss with it so much so... yes you are wasting your time :D
I actually did polish her up a few weeks ago and she does really look a lot nicer. She must hate me as looks are not on my top list of priorities in a bike.
Having said that it does indeed give you an opportunity to get real close to your machine and potentially identify any problems.

A clean (and polished) bike is a happy bike. Happy bike, happy me (and happy, since Mrs. Valley rides) :D

Yes, it is a waste of time. Clean bike is one thing, polishing is something else.
I waste my time on plenty of other things (forum?), so no judgment, but it is a waste.

This. Also take this time to inspect tires, and that everything is tight.
