Have you ever wondered:

Self, what is the exact real-world weight of:

DT Swiss 415 Rims laced to King R45 hubs in 24/28
with Dura Ace Skewers
and a Campy 11-25 Chorus Cassette (why 11-25 - cause King has a proprietary lock ring and 11 is all they had)
in clincher with a tube and 25mm Vitttoria Pave tires

compared to -

Ambrosio Nemesis Rims laced to Campy Silver hubs in 32/32
with VeloOrange Skewers
and a Campy 12-25 Record Cassette
in tubular with 25mm Vittoria Pave Tires

I bet you have wondered this. Well, wonder not, this guy has the real-world weights.

Dt Swiss rear 1.54kg
Ambrosio 1.54kg

Dt Swiss front 1.12kg
Ambrosio 1.14kg

VeloOrange skewer rear 250g
Dura Ace 9000 rear 215g

The World now knows the answer to this riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. Bottom line: old tubular 32 spoke wheels still have plenty of life.

BTW, welcome to my Saturday night: we know how to rock!!!!!

What wheel set feels better to ride?

What wheel set feels better to ride?

Ambrosio - hands down, but the other wheels aren't all that far behind.

Tubular tires just roll better and feel nice, not sure anyone who has spent significant time on both would argue otherwise. I just can't ride tubular all the time - some can, I can't.

Gotta say I was surprised the weight was that close - moving them around in my basement the Ambrosio wheels always felt heavier so given the variables were as close as possible I did the weighing.

Guess we all gotta remember it wasn't that long ago Boonen won Flanders and Roubaix on 32 spoked, silver record hubs Ambrosio rims.
