Has anyone done this? I really want to get one of Lezyne's lights for night riding but my MTB has 35mm bars and the included clamps only work for 31.8 or 25.4.

It is a bit late. But I think Lezyne has or is working on a 35mm mount.

You can find rubber O-rings in various sizes. They should work as a replacement for the Lezyne rubber strap

If all things fail, try this...not the most elegant of solutions, but it worked on the mtb that my daughter rides to school every day.

I bought a Hope clamp and modified it to fit a lamp that used the rubber clamping system, just removed the screw from the bottom of the lamp, bit of dremeling and nice secure fit now on the bars:
