Quick question, what type of bottom bracket and headset would a columbus sl tubed 1988 or 1989 nova special take? English or Italian? Need to finish up my dura-ace 9 conversion and the bottom bracket is the last piece left.

thanks
Patrick

Ok - fun trivia time -

Other than bikes from Italy, and Eddy Merckx bicycles, thanks to the De Rosa heritage, do _any_ modern bikes come with Italian bottom brackets?

The only two possible suspects I would think of are the two current Italophile masters - e-Richie and Nagasawa-san. But I would venture a small bet that Mr. Sachs uses BSC shells... What about Nagasawa-san?

What about Williers built in the far east? I bet BSC, too.

Calfees, until a relatively few years ago, were Italian BB threaded.

that surprises me.
must be some reason.
hmmmm?
how about some theories

he must use a metal bb insert and glue it in?
must buy them from italy from one of the builders there?
hmmmm?
what does he use for dropouts?
where do they come from?
hmmm.

Calfee changed to English BBs a few years ago. The BB inserts were/are Ti as are the rear droputs.

Ya, all his parts came from Italy.
He built the Gios frames sold here too.

Lots of Italian folks in Toronto, something like
the largest population outside Italy.
