I'll be going on the Seattle area ride - for Gail Alef who was hit while riding her Ottrott on our Sunday ride last September.

The Tulsa Ride of Silence had 140 riders participate yesterday under clear skies and 80 degrees.

In its 3rd year, the Tulsa ride had Police escorts for the 10 mile route, down Riverside over to Peoria to cover Brookside and back.

Donations were collected to offset the cost of police escorts.

We had seven people, and quietly rode through town for about ten miles with no hassles or publicity. Very peaceful, in a way! Nice that there were some commuters, some folks on racing-type bikes, etc. Quite companionable, too, even without talking...

There were hundreds on the Seattle ride. I haven't heard exactly how many. All types of bike/rider from commuters with milk crates tied on the rear rack to racer boys.

The route was mostly roads with at least two lanes in our direction which worked well given the numbers.

At one point a motorcycle cop went by us and said it was nice to see us sharing the road. I suppose we were mostly managing to stay in one lane at that point - he must see some pretty bad behavior to make that comment. (We'd passed him earlier, when he was stopped at the side of the road, chatting on a cellphone; looked like he was just on his way home.)

Other than the Mayor proclaiming yesterday to be something like 'Be aware of bicycles day', the City seemed to leave us alone.

These are photos from the Dallas Ride of Silence, where this all started. We had a few guest speakers that gave some brief remarks including someone from the Mayor's office that was a cyclist.
This is Chris Phelan, the guy that started this whole thing. in his talk, he always says to look around you, look at each other. Because next year, one of us will not be returning. A bit morbid, but it really makes you think, and to look out for each other.

This is the starting point before we go around White Rock Lake, just under 10 miles. I don't know how many we had but it was probably over 2000 cyclists.

We had a few people ride tandems, sans stokers, symbolizing lost riders.
