So there I was sitting at the light waiting to get home from a exciting ride. The light changes and procede into the intersection along with an anoying thumping from my front tire. :butt: There it is a massive gubber or a least a whole pack of gum stuck to my tire. I was going to start to take it off but traffice and such as the heat meant it not a good move. So on the last 1/2 miles home it proceeded to toss into the spokes, downtube, crank, cassette, and bb shell with the addition of some residue on the rear tire. :crap:

So how does the rest of the forum get this off thier beloved bike. I am not talking a small amount rather a whole pack of buble yum. I tried car tar and bug remover...no love from that...soap and water...still no love. I got most of the mass off, just not the pieces that mixed with oil from the the chain and is now smeared on...even got some still on my new veloflex pave tires that does not want to come off...

HELP PLEASE! :butt:

To get gum out of your hair you freeze it with an ice cube. I don't think that would work on your bike but that might be a direction to try. I would try a couple of co2 cartridges aimed at biggest globs. Expensive yes but it may work.

Or, you could just lite up that oxy/acetaline torch over in the corner...

I do believe that citrus degreaser, in any form, will work to get rid of your gum situation.

Good luck!

Go to your local hardware store and pick up a can of OOPS latex paint remover. It will take off the gum and not harm the paint on your bike, as long as it's not latex house paint.

Goof Off works well also.

I just use a regular hand towel.

Ohhhh, you said gum - my mistake.

Simple Green. Or Goo Off or something, a yellow liquid stuff, iirc.

...and it won't harm decals or paint if you wipe it off right away....

Low odor mineral spirits. It's the main ingredient in Goo Gone, and a lot cheaper. Keep it off the tires, though.
