Here is why it pays to only buy Campy:

Resale value!

I know Bruce... he's a fellow club member. Please go easy on him. He led a ride this past Sunday that has apparently done him in. Sure we could make fun, but where is the fun in that, when it's apparent he's lost his orientation.

He's usually is a big Shimano fan.

this guy paid $1600 for a pr of pulleys?
he must be in an institution for the insane and have stolen someone elses credit card.
only reasonable explanation

unless he thought that decimal points do not matter... $1,600 same as $1.60 same as $.16...in which case te seller should have told him $16,000.

maybe he thought it was lire?

1,680.00 ITL = 1.11018 USD

as of 2002 when the lire stopped being used..... ;)

That sounds about right for a couple old pulleys.

There were two buyers willing to pay $1600+, both snipers. Unless he was the victim of a prank, it looks good.

But what if you want to actually use the the parts? (After all, most of us buy the bikes and components to use them, not as an investment.)

That is pretty amazing. And I thought the $35 at my LBS for crank bolts was steep.

I should check down in the basement, maybe the previous owners of the house left an "Inverted Jenny" stamp down there...

. . . I saw some truly unbelieveably high sale prices on eBay for various old derailleurs. I couldn't understand it at the time. I mean, they're just OLD derailleurs, for Gawd's Sake!

But I guess it's the same as anything else that's old . . . There's no more of them new--EVER. There's people with plenty of cash who are willing to pay plenty for that.

Of course, there's plenty of people with plenty of cash willing to pay high for just about anything. We had some photos on the AP wire today from a guy's new house in--where else?--Florida. The guy had a 1974 Lambo Countach and had his new house built with a special skylight that would allow the car to be hoisted up and lowered into his new living room, where it was hung on the wall as a piece of art.

did they make the countach in '74? or was that the miura?

that would put a damper on the cocktail party if it fell off the wall...

. . . when I saw the photos. It's definitely a Countach, but I thought they didn't make them that long ago.

And Ginger, the hook on the wall was REALLY big . . .

the buyer's last three buys were bits of cheap jewelry at $12-14. I smell a funny deal here.

Yeah, looking at the bid history, it's like 1680, then 1650~ and then down to 55? Seems shady thaat the winning bid knew to be $30 over the high bid, in one bid, when the high bid that would have shown would have been around $50, no?

I call shenanigans.

They did make them in '74. Early Countach's looked cool until Lamborghini stuffed them up with wings and skirts and flared wheel arches and rubbish. Stupid tractor makers.

eBay frenzies again. Would someone please go over to his house and pull him free from his keyboard. Thanks.

Kevan's wife just phoned me to say that I didn't know what I was talking about. At her house $12-14 is NOT cheap jewelry! Something about her engagement ring being a re-cut Shure V-15 phono stylus.
