I picked up and old Schwinn Hybrid

I spend ALL day going through it. Its in darn good shape for a 25 year old bike. the original prancer tires look good but I can spin the wheel and stop it with my hand and watch knobs chunk off

Since I paid a whopping $50 bucks for it I don稚 want to go crazy but I will be using this as a town bike. Stock was 700 x 38 knobby,

I tend to use performance bikes Forte line. Cheap, runs well enough.

I commuted in London for 4 years on Schawble Marathon Plus with out a puncture, I would rather spend a bit more on reliable tyres. Its the old adage of Buy cheap, Pay twice

Yes sir good tyres are worth the money.

I'm looking for and excuse to try the newer Marathon Almotion.
That old Schwinn would be a great candidate.

Sadly not very cheap.

vittoria randonneur wire bead tires are cheap and durable. they arent the livliest tires, but they arent meant to be either.

I've been waiting for the day I wear mine out so I can replace them with something livlier. So far though, I may be stuck with them for a while. They're an excellent low cost commuter tire if flat prevention is your thing.

I've also put over 5k miles on Schwalbe Marathons (on a Brompton, so that's like what, 8k at 700c?) before I had to replace the rear. Also a recommend for flat prevention. Not inexpensive though.

I too have had good service from 700x37 Performance/Forte tires (Metro K with Kevlar belt I think) that I paid less than $20 for. They have a very subtle tread--not at all knobby so they roll well on pavement.

Another +1 for Metro K tires- I have 35c that measure 32mm, at appropriate tire pressure they feel pretty good and ride quite nicely for a cheap tire.

My local store also has offered them without the Kevlar belt for $13. Pretty cheap experiment I think.

Panaracer Pasela. $30 a pop and a wide variety of sizes. Not a bad ride for the price.

Schwalbe Marathons. If they're too spendy, or you get scared off by all the horror stories of mounting them, Panaracer T-Servs; Paselas if you need extra flat protection or width >35.
