in SA the locals were chasing the Federal dollars associated with bike ways and the way bike lanes are laid out shows it. My favorite are the one mile lanes that start where it's convenient and end where's it's not. Sometimes it's just a sign and no lane. the second photo has traffic flying by. i'm skeptical on the motivation. We have a "Siclovia" twice a year. Last year it was monitored by traffic cops, kill joys. Reminded my of going to a public pool only to discover all you can do is stand in the water.

Sadly some of the comments seem all too familiar--law breaking cyclists holding up traffic and killing pedestrians...
