I know this has been talked to death, but I searched and couldn't find much on my specific tire, so...
Just bought a set of Vittoria Pave CG 25's. My first foray into the world of wide(-ish) tires. I have been running Conti 23's for forever. 90F/100R. Looking at the Vittoria chart, at my weight for 320 tpi tires, they are suggesting 100-115psi. MORE than I run now. That can't be right.
They are on Pacenti SL23's (V1, if that matters). I'm 155lbs. I was expecting to go with around 80f/90r. Too low?
The official suggestion sounds high. What is the Paceline suggestion?

I don't run those specific tires, but I generally start my 25c tires at 85/90, and adjust by feel from there. I've run some as low as 75/80 without issue (I'm about 145).

I'm 155 and I never run more than 90psi on any tire on wide rims.

I've pinch flatted once in a year.

I've had PRs against nationally ranked sprinters running about 70psi on 28mm tires.

The Vittoria recommendation is BS.
Experiment. I ride Mavic Open Pros with Vittoria 25s at much much lower pressure than the recommendation on the tire. Ignore and proceed on your own. And if you use latex tubes, take the pressure down even more. Take charge and determine what works best for you. BTW, I'm just under 155 and never pinch flat.

I run my Corsa CX 25's @ 80f, 85r, and I'm 190 dressed to ride. Silky smooth ride

About 155 here and I run 25c tires on 23mm rims. Never go above 80psi rear and 75psi front. Smooth and fast, you can have both. I have run 75r/70f on rough surfaces with zero issues.

uh apart from super-fred's strava PR news...

I've ran a bit over 100 on my paves and I'm 180lbs and never really seen any pinchflats

other types of flats though...

yo, macadmia, I was trying to illustrate a point.

ride what feels good, dont overpump that chet. let the PROS worry about scienze.

Thanks for the info, but how's about not getting snarky with someone trying to help me? When they're helping you, do what you want.

Makoti, I like your good-looking-out style

Oh, and 100psi on Paves is moronic.

Experiment.

This is the best advice in this thread. I recently got a digital pressure gauge (for 'cross) and found my old gauge was off by at least 5 psi. Dropping that 5 psi completely changed the feel of my ride. I had no idea it would matter that much.

I remember riding 19's. Pumped up to 125. Because that's what you did.

I ride Paves. I weigh about 180-185 lbs. The 25mm ones get inflated to about 105psi for road use. These are very compliant, supple tires. I find that if I go less than 100 psi, they feel too soft. For me, 105psi gives a good balance between supple grippiness and responsiveness/ less rolling resistance.

For comparison, I ride 25mm GP 4000S at 95psi or so.

Does any body have any experience fitting these on a Corsa Extra with Chorus 11 dual pivot brakes f+r? My rim width is 19mm I think.

The rear already looks pretty tight with a 23mm tire.

Also would these be ok on some fire roads and crushed stone trails?

No experience on the rim/bike front but yeah, they should be fine on those surfaces.

more supple tires can ride well at higher PSIs. But in general you should probably run the lowest PSI that doesn't lead to frequent pinch flats. You'll have to experiment with that on your own as it depends on the quality of the road surfaces you ride on, your riding habits, weight, etc.

i'll second or third or fourth the experiment advice. that said, recent convert to low psi. smooth smooth smooth
