I've been looking forward to these. I really like the Babyshoe Pass and have room to go bigger, so I'm thinking of trying some when the time comes.

Who's getting some? What are you putting them on?

I LOVE my Babyshoe's, and need to double check clearances, but I'd be totally interested in trying the 48s.

Ordered them on Thursday, havent got shipping number but they should arrive next week.

They are going here:

I used to have babyshoes on there but sold them in anticipation of the switchbacks. Been using my veerubber which are awesome but a bit slow on pavement. The veerubbers are 50mm so they should be exactly the same as the switchbacks (jen said they grow out to be about 50-52mm).

Have a nice 1 week trip coming up and it will be a nice test for the tires.

Are you planning to run them tubeless?

Not at the moment. I do have rubles rims with tubeless tape so it would not be hard but for now they will have tubes in them. Maybe after the trip I will try them tubeless.

I'm jealous of you folks who have a bike that will take those 48s! The only good part (for me) might be some nice Babyshoe Pass sets available from those who went up a size...

I ride a Civia Bryant and I think they'll fit, but I'll have to get them on there to be sure. I've got plenty of room now so I'm optimistic.

If you need 42's, I have a lightly used pair of cream colored Hetre's I don't plan to use.

yeah my rawland can fit even bigger, I have had 55s and with still some room. Easily can go 60s on that thing which is pretty neat.

Thanks, brockd, and sorry, I missed your reply somehow. I am going to be looking in the near future (need to sell some stuff) but I'm hoping to find black w/tanwall.

just got them and installed them. Quick ride and regret that I sold my babyshoe way too early, I should have kept them till these got out. I liked the veerubber but they are not good on pavement.

Quick ride around the block and immediate difference. I can already tell I am going to love these tires.

I will update here with a review, going on a 6 day journey in a few weeks on this bike.

What's the verdict? How do you feel they compare the the 42mm offerings? And how wide do they measure on your rims?

Any guidance on tire pressure?

They measure about 50mm on my pacentis CL25.

They are excellent, roll super nice on gravel and on pavement. I will definitely stick with these over the 42s, more comfortable and better ride on gravel. The smaller tire did feel faster on pavement but could have just been placebo.

Not many flats with these for me and I have over a 1000 miles on mine, maybe even 1500 and they still have a lot of life left. Mine are the standard casings not the lighter ones.

As far as pressure goes I have ran them at almost max rec and have taken 10psi out depending on conditions and how loaded the bike was (im a big guy). I prefer them at 40-45psi (max is 55 if i remmeber correctly), just rolls over everything.

Highly recommend them if you can fit them. I will always have a bike with them

52mm wide on 34mm internal width rims, with tubes, at 26psiF-35psiR. The tire has a very narrow pressure range where comfort and cornering performance have the fewest compromises. For my preference, to get cornering stability & predictability requires too much pressure.

Looks great^

Well dang. My bike won't fit SHs. Though I'm not a big guy and I'm pretty happy with the dynamic range of Babyshoes... they adapt well with a few psi adjustment. That said there are some sweet 27.5x2.0 tires that would be fun... If only.

Can anyone measure the height of a mounted Switchback Hill (on a ~23mm rim preferably)? Oddly, the choke point on my bike is the fender boss on seatstay bridge...I'm curious to know exactly how much taller these are than Babyshoes cuz the SH just might fit

I don't follow you. Is there a remark on the tire height in there that I missed?

I'm using Blunt SS, so I can help exactly. I would think they would measure taller on a narrower rim. I would estimate 2" (50mm).

Radius is 345mm/13.6 inch when worn-in. The circumference of a tire is determined by its cords. A radial corded tire would have no change in diameter/circumference when mounted on different width rims, however, this tire has diagonal cords on each ply, so diameter would decrease a very, very, minor amount when mounted on an extremely wide rim. A difference in radius or diameter for this tire on rims 23mm and 40mm in width would almost be unmeasurable. Circumference would change by at most 2mm.

I'm deciding between Baby Shoe or Switchbacks any more thoughts? I currently am using Hetres. I ride road more than gravel or dirt.

My thought is that you already know the answer, but you want an excuse to try out the extra jumbo tires just because...
I won't stop you.

Also, get both.

Can't get this out of my head because it just makes so much sense.

Switchbacks, only if mounted tubeless with sealant. I'm experiencing too many punctures for relatively few miles traveled.

I don't doubt your experience, but why would Switchbacks be any different from Babyshoes when it comes to puncture resistance? Seems they have similar construction and similar enough pressure...different terrain?

finally bit the bullet and bought a set to see what's what with SBHs (Extralights)
These are neat tires. Delightfully smooth over just about anything and still quick somehow. They are much more sensitive to pressure than Babyshoes...a bit too soft and they sag in corners, a bit too much and they loose the magic carpet ride. ~30 psi seems to work.
If not for the paper-thin chainstay clearance here, this would be a killer set-up for the Zanc.

48mm with inner tubes on Stan's rims.
