On a club ride along the Gilman Trail. The name is not correct in the article, her first name is Diane. I haven't heard any details as to what happened.

The news story (http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/aurora-beacon-news/news/ct-abn-cyclist-killed-st-0906-20150905-story.html) is here.

Very sad. Stupid website won't let me read the article without a paid subscription, but very sad news. Prayers to her family.

Do they erect ghost bikes in memory of fallen riders in your area? Would be a nice tribute/ reminder if not.

My condolences to your club and her family. Not trying to go off topic, but this needs to stop. Driver awareness needs to improve and it is in some places, just never fast enough.

:(

I'm sure the club and community is surrounding and supporting her family members. I hope something good comes out of this... It unfortunately takes tragedy for change.

Don't want to drift the thread either, but could only see the Chicago Tribune headline in any of the links. Once I declined to subscribe the story disappeared and the screen went to latest news. But the headline said woman dies when bike collides with auto, implying the bike was at fault for the masses who only look at headlines. BikeSnobNYC has been on this topic a lot, a lot of media tend to implicate the cyclist in these deaths.

My condolences!

Before we go blaming the driver, at that junction, there are markers on the trail telling cyclists they must yield to traffic and sightlines for cyclists and drivers aren't really that great. Not sure who was at fault, but I wouldn't necessarily jump to "murderous drivers!"

For these articles you can generally always just paste the URL into google and click the link in the google search results (it's always the first hit) and that will get you past the paywalls.

I guess.. I have adblock+ installed and it didn't work on this site. It's generally not going to as the paywall banner should be coming from the same domain as the content. The ads come from 3rd party servers, that's generally how the whole thing works.
