the cat at the bike store wanted to sell me oversize stem and bars till i told him my steel bike with the 1 inch fork doesn't flex like that . both stems are 13's

Fixed, I was just chatting about this with a shop racer gorilla the other day. Big bros should have stiff stronger stems and little bros like me should have the lighter weight noodly stuff. I don't thik everyone should use the same bars and stems. Stella azzurra stems like the vicea/versa and latte are heavy and hell and stiff and strong. You can't expect a 120 gram stem to be stiff.

It has an oversized clamp, but the new Thomson road stem is reasonably light and REALLY stiff. Also durn purdy.
