The tongue on my right Shimano R320 road shoe will not stay in place - it almost immediately slides to the right no matter how tight the closures are. No problem at all with the left shoe.

Anybody have a suggestion for fixing this? It drives me batty.

I have the same issues with my shimano shoes but with the left. Does it do that before you get on the bike or while riding?

A little dab of rubber cement?

It's straight when I start a ride but slides out of place in a matter of minutes.

As long as you don't feel any pain or have any other type of problems I'd simply ignore the issue.

Is your shoe the right size? It looks like it may be a little loose around your ankle. Do you pronate? Does your arch collapse when your foot is weighted? It seems that your foot has to be moving or rocking within your shoe to push the tongue to the outside over the course of a few minutes. Maybe an insole with some varus to correct for the pronation would eliminate the problem?

IMHO, a varus/valgus or pedaling dynamics issue. Both my shoes do it, but they have a loop at the top of the tongue with the BOA wire threaded through to keep them from going too far to the side. You might try putting a small area of the hooks of a velcro strip along the top edge in the center of the tongue and a corresponding area of the 'soft' side of the velcro on the back side of the over-arching strap. Maybe the velcro could help keep the tongue in place. So even if the tongue moves a little, the 'spikey' part of the velcro won't be pointed at your socked foot. I'm sure you can find some self-adhesive velcro pretty easily,,, Wal Mart or a fabric store.

Just take the shoes to a shoe repair shop and ask them to "bar tack" the tongue to the shoe. It will be easy to cut the threads if you don't like it.

For what it's worth, I think regularguy412 is on to something. How the shoe tongue moves as you ride might be indicative of how your foot and leg move during the pedal stroke. It might be a good clue if a fitter needs to apply any corrections to a setup.

Fitters out there, are you listening?
