View Full Version : Stripping Sticker Glue of Wheels - having Trouble

So in the past, i've destickered most of my wheels, I have a new set that I just pulled the stickers off, and have used acetone about 4 times now on each area of glue residue, but there is still a ton on there...

Any other thoughts on removing the glue? These are fully anodized black, aluminum rims...

I have TCE that I know will work, but afraid it might ruin the anodizing..

Any other stuff out there that might work better than acetone which just isn't cutting it on this wheelset?

I used Goof Off to get sticker residue off a set of Campy Khamsin wheels when I took the stickers off, worked very well.

i always use a heat gun to remove stickers.... helps minimize glue residue, then straight isopropyl alcohol

Not to late, heat it up and roll it up. Make sure to wear a glove so you don't burn up your finger ( done that before).

Hadn't thought of a heat gun... pretty sure I still have one from when we redid out house a few years ago...

Goo gone or lacquer thinner.

WD-40, peanut butter, vegetable oil. The other suggestions have worked well for me, too.

+1 regarding Goof Off. It does a nice job removing tubular glue as well.

Heat guns can have a negative affect on the wheels, so use with caution. Best one is a rubber cement thinner that will get the glue off with no issues with adhesion if you decide to put more stickers on. Available at the local art supply store. But use gloves and breath lightly, or breath heavy and trip out.

WD-40. Gets rid of sticker goo, and is much easier on everything vs. acetone or goo-gone. I use it to de-sticker carbon rims, and it works perfectly every time. Wipe it on, wait a few, wipe it off. Acetone or goo-gone can dull anodized or clear coated surfaces.

Googone should work and not mess the anodizing
