I don't know this cyclist, but his death hits very close to home, as I typically do this ride 10-20 times per year. Many do this ride weekly or more often. Many cyclists on the weekends, and normally, very safe, since it's not normally driven by cars except for very few people that live up there, or people sight seeing.
This is a hugely popular climb by all of us locals. It's a twisty, steep, mountain road, with zero passing lanes until you get all the way to the top. A nice 1800' climb in 5 miles.
He was killed Friday night, and the US Pro Challenge raced up this same road on Saturday.
