Pining for the fjords and all that. Has anyone done any travel to Norway? Not a cycling trip, but I've wanted to go for a long time. I know it's expensive but maybe "less" now than 5 years ago with the exchange rate. Maybe two weeks with a couple places to stay and day trips out from those. Possibly rent a car for some of it. Day fjord cruise, etc. Airbnb, hotels?

Thanks!

I did this about 4 years ago and really loved it. Took the 'hotel' with you, stopped all up the coast, ended in Kirkines..really fun.

Are you sure you don't want to do a little cycling? Check this out: http://cyclingtips.com.au/2015/04/roadtripping-norway/

We took a cruise from Amsterdam once. That way the cost of food was defrayed and we mostly wanted to see the fjords anyway, not spend as much time driving. We saw several places where riding would be very difficult.

I have travelled all over Norway, from the Southernmost point all the way up to north of the Arctic circle. It is an exceptionally beautiful country and the people are also very friendly. There are what is known as "Hytte" all over the country where you can stay very cheaply (by Norwegian standards). They tend to be simple bunkhouses and nothing more, but more than adequate. They were initially used by hikers and such but over the years have become more common for people in cars and on bikes.

Please do be aware that ferries are very expensive when you drive.

I traveled to Oslo and Lillyhammer a few years ago for work and loved it. Keep in mind that depending on the time of year it can dark and dreary. I didn't get out to the fjords but I was told there is some great cycling to be done out there.

Having been there in both months, June is MUCH nicer than December- trust me! Also, you'll be able to find more than a dozen varieties of herring for breakfast in many places in Oslo.

Olso was amazing. Really friendly people, great food and beer.

If you can, do the hike up to the Pulpit Rock. Your mind will be blown.

Here I am with a 2000ft drop below me.

Two quick things - as was mentioned, Norwegians are very friendly but the one thing they do not get is American sarcasm. You will get confused smiles and possibly even a request for you to explain yourself.

If you want to win the locals over you have to try lutefisk. You will hate it and they will laugh at you but trust me on this one.

It is a very expensive country. Their currency is very out of whack.

You didn't sit at the edge and dangle your legs over...

My in-laws sent my 18 y/o to Norway this past summer for his High School graduation present. He loved it and claims that if he could have spoken their languge he would have never came home. The flew into Oslo and drove to Bergan. Cleanest and most beautiful place with amazingly nice people. Just expensive.

Yes, though it makes you feel very queasy.

Insanity.

I might lay down perpendicular to the edge and poke my head over, but there's no way I'm sitting - too little distance between my CG and the point of no return for me. (unless I had a parachute on my back)

There's a picture out there on the web of someone doing hand-stands in a similar spot. (can't remember if it's the same location or not)
