My front derailleur is having trouble staying in the outer most trim setting.
After a few minutes of shifting it outward it slips in again.
I was wondering if it is cable tension or the actual shifter that keeps it in place?
Thanks!

Turn your barrel adjuster a bit to slacken the cable tension a bit and see if that resolves the issue. Also, check that the front cage has the proper clearance with the chain ring.

Cable tension most likely.

Make sense.
I was actually doing it backwards, adding more cable tension.
Thanks for the clear headed advice.

Put chain on biggest cog and small ring. Make sure it's not too low. Adjust limit screw so chain touches inner cage. Attach cable, pull cable tight. Then unscrew inner limit screw a wee bit, enough to take slack out of cable and move cage inwards a wee bit. Now small cog, and 3 clicks should bring chain onto big ring. Then turn outer limit screw so it just touches the front dear stop. If it takes 4 clicks, then front der too far inward, then on that 4th click, it falls inward.
