Today, history arrived.

Ambrosio Rims laced to silver Record Hubs built by Elder Spud

Except, aside from the already awesome wheels, I got bottles and I asked for, and received, an autograph pic of Elder Spud as a sort of Certificate of Authenticity. In 50 years after jamming on these wheels I will walk them into a shop and just like Pawn Stars the dude will look at them and say

"Wow, back in the day, artisan wheel builders would hand-make wheels to a rider's liken. These were the pinnacle built by a master craftsmen. I must have them."

The pic . . . it says "Good enough for Eddy good enough for us"

So. Much. Win.

Drooling....

And getting a signed photo from Peter -- genius.

Now when the new DT tub rims come out.... unlace my Nemesis from my silver Chorus and send 'em to the Republic? But a new set of WI T11s and send em to Ergott? So many great choices here on the PL!

Thank you sir. Of the 'bike' stuff I do, building conventional wheels is the thing I really enjoy. Plus, worse things than starting with silver Record hubs, new Ambrosio Nemesis rims and Sapim spokes.

I have a couple of sets of those in my arsenal too.

Excellent wheels. I think I will build another set this winter only on 28s this time.

BTW - the Spud is The Master- and he still likes kind of like that guy in the photo.

Very jealous here.

Wonder if senior spud would build a set for my dream build wallhanger?

That would leave drivetrain and it would be ready to roll by spring.

What kind of tires do you plan to use on those beauties?

But sure , be happy to even if the stuff is sent to me(I supply spokes please).

Great! ( I've been contemplating contacting you for a while now, but will do that in private and not hijack this thread anymore.)

Bro, worry not. A wheel is only as good as the builder. I've had record hubs laced to Ambrosio rims before - I sold them, I will not sell these. Ever. You get my drift?? And we're not talking thread drift.

Pick up what I'm laying down.

BTW, I now see why Chris King didn't make campy hubs prior - the entire hub industry is predicated upon campy not making these hubs in various spoke count.

Elder Spud serviced them . . . . the hubs by themselves are art. They spin as hubs should - not an exaggeration in any sense.

Glad u are not offended and congrats on a nice set of wheels. I hope to have some similar for a project bike someday soon.

So what bike will these beauties reside underneath?

Oh man, the roll nice, real nice, real, real nice.

This is exactly how I wanted this bike outfitted. The silver record hubs are so damn awesome.

Well done. There is something retro-chic about alloy box tubular wheels. Do it for the ride, do it for the sound. The timbre of gliding over macadam in this way is one the purities of cycling.

Very nicely done, wheels really compliment that build and of course the Paves keeps it all grounded.:hello:

Classic -- and classy.

I recently moved to the all-black 27mm Pave tubs on my Nemesis/silver Chorus wheels as I thought they might work better on my ti Hampsten, but you know, seeing this I think the only real Paves have green stripes.

I have one new 27 black Pave in the workshop as a replacement for the rear wearing out. Maybe I should think about a trade for the traditional green stripe in the classifieds....

You hit the nail right on the head, tele. I went back and forth and even though green goes with bike about as well as purple they are Pave tires and Pave tires with Ambrosia are most definitely green.

Fuzz nails why these rims - they just are right. They sure won't win a weight war, but holy heck do they ride nice.

Elder Spud builds a fine wheel - that is for sure.
