the 2015 Worlds are in Richmond VA...and the event is less than 2 months day! Worlds dont come this way too often, the prior iterations hosted in North America were in Hamilton, Ontario back in 2003 and Boulder, CO back in 1986. for a bona-fide cycling nut, this is a rare opportunity to see the worlds best cyclist in top condition racing on home soil.

so i'm putting this out there: are there any other paceliners planning on heading out to Richmond in September?!?!

here' the event website with dates/logistics/etc.

I am going to be there. Getting together a group ride or something would be nice.

Let's meet up

generally, where is your rental house relative to the course?

if it helps, here are a couple maps:

there's a Fan Center @ the convention center along with the fan-zone along the start finish straight:

and another map showing more activity areas on the south end of the course:

I'm in. Just up the road, less than 2 hrs. w/o traffic (which never happens). Might go back and forth or debating RV'ing it possibly. Have some connections there too that might have floor space. Wallyman - you can critique either of my two Colnago projects which should be finished by then....

There's still an opportunity to volunteer as well, which gives you some pretty good access to the riders/course.

Will be in the area Thu-Tue, staying at a friend's nearby. Not sure what we're doing yet but he's checking things out.

Mark Cavendish Previews the Course (http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/05/video/mark-cavendish-previews-richmond-worlds-course_371207)

At 40 seconds into the video, it shoes the start of the cobbled climb. It looks like they're riding through a lawn!!

I'm hoping to be there. I'll be staying nearby in Fredericksburg. Would be cool to meet up.

EDIT: and I just realized Six Gap is the same weekend and I've committed to riding it with some friends. Damn!

Crap.

I wanted to do Six Gaps, but the guy I would go with is going to Richmond, and I was planning to go there, too. Oh well. Six Gaps will be back next year, Sagan will not!

I may try to come up the week before to check out the other races and ride around Richmond and Fredsburg. I've committed to being a 4th in a cabin so I'm locked in.

This may deserve it's own thread, but what type of rider is this course going to favor?

Is this a 'tour of flanders' type of course? From my crude interpration of the face profile, it looks like there are 3 climbs each lap, each less than a km, and each between 25-50m in elevation gain.

I haven't seen them in real life, so have no idea what the gradients are like, or if the profile is even that accurate.

My wife and one of our friends are going to go up early and I will join them that Saturday. We have a hotel room right at the finish.

A Sagan type rider, I think. Maybe too steep for Cav?

I had a nice place to stay and was ready to go but I'll be off to New Mexico for work instead now. Oh well there could be worse places then New Mexico. Richmond is just a short way done the road too :(

Have fun and take lots of pics.

Everyone who is driving to Richmond who has large, bulky items for sale should list them, might save on the hassle of shipping, etc. I have a ML Parlee Z5 I could bring!

I'll be attending the last few days but have to travel between now and then. I'll check the forum for meet-up spots and the secret handshake before I arrive.

I am flying out Saturday with my son to DC and staying with friends and we will be driving to the race on Sunday. If my Paceline cap shows up before then I will be sporting it at the race.

heading down to richmond today, but will be with relatives out near c-ville until the weekend.
i'll be doing some scouting during the wimmen's elite race on saturday -- look for a gray t-shirt with an old-english D on the front!
then i'll be there for the men's elite race on sunday -- look for a bright orange MOLTENI t-shirt!
