Yeah, they can be quite the nuisance, but I'm making the best of it. I also don't have a garden so that helps.

Beautiful, and I know how hard it is to keep them out of a garden. But still love them.

Excellent pictures. Triplets are a sign of a very healthy deer population.

Very cool. Ironically, I just saw a mother and three does on our street about an hour ago as well.

I shot these twins laying a few feet apart in a hay field a couple of years ago. They are terribly destructive to my trees, but I still like to see them.

I had a funny run-in with a doe and her fawn a bunch of years ago while working on a farm in Southern Oregon. I saw them from a distance in the woods near the barn I was walking to. Started walking toward them and the mother took off running, leaving the fawn curled up on the ground (like in Mark's photos). I was able to wak right up to it. Debated petting it, but decided it was better to leave it be. That doe did not get the mother of the year award.

Nice photos, beautifully composed.
Aren't triplets uncommon ?We usually see just one or two fawns around here.

Thanks again everyone!

Yes, triplets are uncommon. Many places on Long Island have been trying to control the deer population as they are everywhere! My property backs up to preserve land so I have a lot of wildlife back there and no interference from people.

I have to admit they are cute. Rabbits are cute too but oh my destructive little creatures. I also have to admit that I have a nice few tenderloins still left in the freezer :D

Ha! Had me going with the title. Not to mention the pictures were slow to load. Very nice work! I grew up in an area overran with deer. They are cute until one of them either plows into your car or steps out in front of it. I think my family had two cars totaled by deer...

I had an '89 Lincoln Towncar so I won the last encounter with a buck. He was a big boy, about 12 point. His mistake was jumping out in front of me. I hit his hind legs with the right corner of my car. He died within 15 minutes about 100ft away (sucked to see him suffer). My car had a broken side marker lens. They don't make cars like that anymore!

I called the cops about the incident. The cop who showed up was a hunter and asked if he could take the deer for its meat. I had no problem with that. At least the animal didn't go to waste.

Thanks, that's a Canon 6D with Canon 70-200mm L 2.8IS II @ 200mm. I didn't have to crop much.

Deer, especially babies are cute and I love animals, but when it comes to their ability to safely interact with cars and bicycles they aren't a whole lot smarter than squirrels and the end result can be bad. Combine that with overpopulation in some suburban areas with no natural predators and the net result is not good for Bambi.

Don't get me wrong - I live out in the woods, have them all over my place, and I like them, but in many places deer + humans / cars / bikes is a bad combo.

great shots! yes deer proliferate like rabbits now and with very few remaining predators overpopulation is becoming a problem in many urban areas. some communities have actually resorted to having extra deer hunting seasons to try to help control.

Yeah that is a beefy car indeed. That's cool that the police officer took the carcass. My mom, sister, and myself were crammed into our 72 super beetle on our way to my sister's 8th grade graduation when a buck sideswiped us. Glass was sprayed all over the cab and my sister was hysterical. It ricocheted off back where it came from and we almost went off the side of the highway. It would have been a pretty far drop down. The other one stepped out in front and totaled my sister's first car that she saved up for. It was a brand new Pontiac Vibe (first year they were out). She only had that thing for like 2 or 3 months.

Careful talking about hunting. We might wander into MN dentist territory :help:

They are beautiful and we have two "herds" of them in my neighborhood. However, they do eat other peoples flowers and vegetables and as a motorcycle rider and Miata owner....downright dangerous when there are too many. And in many neighborhoods nationwide there ARE too many.

We see lots of twins being born and last year one set of triplets. As someone else pointed out, that is a sign that they are well fed....from neighborhood yards.

We have multiple herds in our neighborhood, our place backs up to DNR land with several ravines and a river. We have lost thousands in landscaping to them just learning the quirks of coexisting. Bottom line for us is "We moved into their neighborhood, deal with it".

By slowing down, live and let live, no pesticides, and paying attention we see a lot more than deer.

The previous owner of my house had a bunch of hostas, but given that they're "deer candy" had to have them behind a fence that I wanted to remove.

After a year or two of trying various sprays to keep the deer away I quit trying to save them and gave them all to a buddy of mine who was into plants but didn't live out in the woods. He and and his son came over, we dug them up and my problem was gone and he now has a lot of very nice hostas in his back yard.
