So I was riding home today after a quick 45 mile. And my rear wheel started to rub really badly and then hop. So I I stopped and went, キキキキ! Ha! Calling the Mrs.Shortsocks to pick me up. Wheel was shot.

Loved the wheels, never needed to true them, Rolf obviously has its haters and lovers, but they have done me well. Until today. I've just never seen a Rear hub break like this:

Anyway. Enjoy.

Are these Vector Pros ? My wife rides a set of old, late '90s Vector Pros and loves them so much she won't let me replace them with something newer.

Yeap! Those are it. I loved them. Seriously one of the most responsive wheels I've ever ridden. Your wife has good taste.

I actually love the Rolf Elan's more, but they don't hold speed at all. But climb like a boss.

I bought them for myself (200# at the time) and cracked the rear rim in ~1000 miles. Had the rim replaced and gave to my wife about '01, 20,000mi or so later and still going strong. Your experience does give me pause. Didn't White Industries make these hubs ?

Yep, I'm pretty sure White did make them in those years and a bit in the mid-late 2000's. White makes great hubs too. I'd just take a look at yours just to make sure they are alright. I never noticed the wheels going out of true, or cracking while cleaning them....but who knows. I wasn't looking for a small crack developing into a large crack either. But I'd just take a look to be on the Safe side.

You must have been going too quick on that 45 mile ride. :)

Look on the bright side, you now have the pleasure of acquiring more cycling gear. :)

If I'm not mistaken and I most likely am... the original vector pros had more material in the flange and the following years they trimmed some grams where they could. I have had several sets over the years and the original ones I had on my Bontrager cross bike, the hubs were noticeably more stout. Oh, and in case anyone is looking, I have a black NOS vector pro rim if anyone needs one. Don't remember if it is the front or rear. Cost of shipping and let's say $5 for me to track down a box!

That spoke pattern - looks like it was designed to pull the hub shell apart.
