How do you know when bike needs repaint?

Have some bikes with nicks and what not. Just noticed a good chip I hadn't noticed before.

How many nicks and chips of patching do you then just go for it?

Touch it up until you can't stand looking at it, then repaint.

One of the last and final thing is to check my wallet. Repaint/restore can be quite tedious and costly procedure.

I've never repainted any of my bikes. I'm not too hard on them - I keep them clean and touched up. I think I would only get one repainted if rust got out of control, or if I were to display it on the mantel.

I had a frame repainted last year. I got a couple years back and the guy had it rattlecanned black. I rode it around for awhile but it was such a good riding bike I felt like it needed to be repainted...so when the funds became available, I sent it off.

I have had one bike repainted because I wanted to keep it and honestly I couldn't stand the paint. Price can vary from $300ish to over $1000.

I just repainted one. I did it when it pissed me off that such a sweet ride looked like I dragged it down the street. It rides better now, too. ;)
