They sat together in the park
As the evening sky grew dark,
She looked at him and he felt a spark tingle to his bones.
'Twas then he felt alone and wished that he'd gone straight
And watched out for a simple twist of fate.

They walked along by the old canal
A little confused, I remember well
And stopped into a strange hotel with a neon burnin' bright.
He felt the heat of the night hit him like a freight train
Moving with a simple twist of fate.

A saxophone someplace far off played
As she was walkin' by the arcade.
As the light bust through a beat-up shade where he was wakin' up,
She dropped a coin into the cup of a blind man at the gate
And forgot about a simple twist of fate.

He woke up, the room was bare
He didn't see her anywhere.
He told himself he didn't care, pushed the window open wide,
Felt an emptiness inside to which he just could not relate
Brought on by a simple twist of fate.

He hears the ticking of the clocks
And walks along with a parrot that talks,
Hunts her down by the waterfront docks where the sailers all come in.
Maybe she'll pick him out again, how long must he wait
Once more for a simple twist of fate.

People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within.
I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring.
She was born in spring, but I was born too late
Blame it on a simple twist of fate.

From one of the greatest of dylan's albums. His next album, desire, was also great. Who sang harmony on desire? Who played violin?

If you see her say hello .......
If you get close to her, kiss her once for me

Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives.
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.

Bunch of people sang harmony, if I recall. Scarlett O'Hara played the violin. Well. Two of the best albums ever, with maybe a slight nod to BOT, atmo.

Edit - mostly Emmy Lou, but I cheated and looked it up. I guess it was on the following Rolling Thunder tour that lots of people got in on the act.

Emmylou, a song's best friend. Ok, name some of your favorite songs on which emmylou sings harmony.

Joey (with dylan)

Grievous angel (with Gram)

She (two versions with Gram and with what's her name form the pretenders)

Lots of stuff with Neil and with Guy Clark

She was workin' in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin' at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

Emmylou sings harmony with Lyle Lovett on one of my wife's CDs. Unintentionally caught a live show that featured her (Austin City Limits?) a few months ago... she has one of those voices that compels you to stop singing along and just listen.

You're an idiot babe
It's a wonder that you still know how to breath.

I think it's called "Down from the Mountain", the live concert of the artists who sing the songs from the soundtrack "O'Brother Were Art Thou" (plus other songs).

http://www.allstarbluegrass.com/

"All Star Bluegrass Celebration" lives up to its name as it captures an historic gathering of the living legends, the biggest stars and a new generation of bluegrass artists, all in one remarkable show from the stage of the revered Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Bluegrass trailblazer Ricky Skaggs hosts this program of pure and powerful performances, featuring Vince Gill, The Del McCoury Band, Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Patty Loveless, Travis Tritt, Bruce Hornsby, Nickel Creek, and a tribute to the late Bill Monroe. The program ends with a stage full of pickers for an all-out jam finale of three bluegrass classics, including Monroe's fiery "Rawhide." Words can hardly do justice to the energy, the magical moments, the pure spirit and harmony displayed on stage. The music speaks for itself!"

It's got a kickin tribute to Earl Scruggs. Both are classic shows with Blugrass greats.

Check these out if you can.
