View Full Version : Quick question?
Pretty sure I can do this, just need to make sure. I have Shimano 9spd bar end shifters with a 9spd XT rear derailleur. Can I run a 10spd road cassettes, if I go to friction mode on the shifters? It seems like there is enough cable pull to make it work. Thanks

I would guess that you could do this no problem as both 9 and 10 speed cassettes occupy (roughly) the same amount of space on the freehub body.
So yea, should work, in theory!

yep. have that set up right now. you may need to adjust b screw. I have a 9sp dura ace bar end going to a 9sp slx derailleur friction shifting a 10sp cassette with a 42T wolftooth so there is a ton of room with these derailleurs you should have no problem.
it can even index 9 of the gears if i want it to.

I am also doing this (9sp XT with friction levers on a 10 speed cassete with a 10 speed chain), works perfectly.
