With the introduction last week of the Edge 20/25 products, many of us were wondering about what that meant for the 500/510 niche. Well, wonder no longer:

Was just reading that. Would have liked him to compare it a bit more directly to the new Polar M450, which seems more in line with what I need.

The problem with the Polar is that then I'd have to get blue tooth compatible third party HR strap and speed/cadence monitor (presumably both from Wahoo?). With the Garmin, you can get the bundle and that seems a bit more simple.... though I really don't need real time strava segment updates or any kind of text messaging integration for my cycling computer.

Whether they want to believe it or not, Polar's stubbornness about not supporting ANT+ is really cutting into their market potential.

Polar should read the story of Blackberry. They are heading down the same path. Once THE top player in heart rate monitors, they are now barely an after thought.

Same here. But ironically, I'm also intrigued by the simplicity of the new Edge 25.

If only the 25 supported power data....

Cool. I still think I'd prefer to stick with my 800, though I wish it would get the Strava integration update...

I'm interested in the 25. My Edge 500's lap/reset button is broken and it looks like a great replacement. I assume they run the same mounting system?

And now this, if you get the 520: http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/07/news/strava-and-garmin-introduce-live-segment-tracking-on-select-devices_375658

This is great! My 500 does everything I want except for mapping and navigation. I couldn't convince myself to pull the trigger on an 800, but the 520 seems doable.

I predict a flood of 500s hitting ebay soon.

800s are cheaper than the 520 will be... And the 520 doesn't do proper navigation.

clearly I was born 20 years too early to appreciate this feature.

That's the first place to mention you need to be Strava premium to get the live segment tracking function. I bet this will help boost the subscription levels at Strava. I'm still a freeloader there and this is not something that would make me consider the premium membership fee, but I bet it is for enough other users.

If the 25 supported power, I'd buy the 25. As it is, since the 520 uses buttons, I'm good w that.

I'll be selling my 500, buying this, and taking the premium strava plunge once it comes out. It looks pretty nice, hopefully the software isn't too buggy at first.
