A weekend of solid rain has me wondering what kind of rain jacket you all use when riding. I'm looking for something that works and easy to put in a jersey pocket of seat bag.

PVC, see-through, $25, works. no point in getting an expensive rain jacket if u ask me..

. . . and it works great. In 45 minutes of rain the sleeves soaked through but torso didn't. It stuffs down to almost nothing and easily fits in a jersey pocket . . . $75.

I like the Optik too, although I haven't had it in any serious rain. I find the challenge in rain is more about staying warm than dry, though, so anything that blocks the wind is gonna help. I just saw they came out with an Optik vest which would be even smaller and lighter and could be perfect for carrying around on questionable summer days. And I've got a birthday coming up - I believe I just started the list for my wife...

I have 3 Rain jackets. The one I use the most is a $10 PVC model cutt-off at the elbows and stuffed into a water bottle.

giordana. expensive, waterproof, light, breathable, wind resistent, stuffable and perfect. just don't throw it in the dryer or else it turns yellow.

Thanks everybody for the tips. World Cycling is having a warehouse sale later this week and I hope to score something good and cheap.

I'm with Dave, the Optic is the poor man's Castelli rain jacket. It is plenty water repellent and very compact. How dry do you need to be in the spring/summer?

. . . if you could spray the Optic with ScotchGuard and make it even better?

Maybe, but it would probably triple the weight/bulk

I had carbon fibre in mind.
CF stitches
CF reflextors
CF fabrix

Another nod for the Assos Climajet. It breathes when it is dry and it blocks moisture when it gets wet. One word of caution... the fabric doesn't stand up to abrasion very well. So if it gets dirty, let it stay dirty.
