Does anyone have a recommendation for an adult kick scooter?

I'm looking for something for keeping up with scooting kids and for the occasional fun errand. Not for commuting.

Stable/smooth ride quality over less than perfect suburban terrain is a priority.

NYCEWheels (http://www.nycewheels.com/kick-scooter-comparison.html) has some nice offerings... though it is hard to say how much scooter is enough.

Xootr (http://www.xootr.com/), I bought one when they did their initial release. Very fast and fun. Didn't use it much so I gave it to my nephew.

If you have more money than you really need, get a Segway. Way hipper than a scooter, and it will impress both kids and adults.

Man up and get a long board.

I have a old spud with a drop deck to make the pushing easier.

Scooters are to skateboards what recumbents are to bikes.

It's a gateway drug and custom emojis will soon follow.

Save your dignity and refrain.

I've a relative in Lancaster county, PA who's told me the amish use scooters as a serious form of transportation (their beliefs prevent them from riding traditional bicycles). It appears Amish-made scooters are offered for sale to the general public and feature steel frames, up to 20" pneumatic tires, brakes, reasonable price, color choice. That could be the ticket!

I am right next to Lancaster and see those scooters everywhere. I always tell my wife I would buy one. I actually had no idea that anyone actually sold them.

I saw many xootrs daily around 2009-2010 when I was commuting by Caltrain from Sunnyvale to San Francisco. Bigger wheels than Razors but given how bad the streets and sidewalks are in downtown SF, it still can't be all that comfortable to ride.

I had a Razor scooter for a few years. The wheels wear out very fast. Where I was working at the time in Mountain View there was a three floor underground parking area with way smooth paving. I spent many a lunch break hauling around and bunny hopping parking curbs. I brought the Razor up to San Francisco one weekend, took it to the Palace of Legion of Honor where I spent much of my childhood skateboarding in the fountain (empty back then). Took it off the highest curb by the bus stop and heard a rounding crack on the landing.
That was the end of that scooter.

Part of me wants to get a longboard to scoot around. I don't know if my wife will allow it. I have some old, well worn Red Kryptonics wheels from 1980 that have been sitting for years in my keepsakes box. They would go great on a Fibreflex vintage Longboard.

I saw a guy in the bike lane this morning with an e-scooter. I didn't have a computer on my bike to tell but I'd guess he was doing 15-18 mph.

Yikes.
Now I definitely know a Segway is a bad idea.

I know - keeping all those teen-aged girls away gets old after a while. :p

Kent Peterson is a very accomplished cyclist (PBP, Tour Divide, etc.)

He's been playing with scooters for a few years now. I believe if you hunt through this blog, you will find useful stuff.
