Looks like Praxis is adding more gear to their lineup and now have an 11-40t 10sp cassette. I have a set of their front chainrings and the quality has been pretty good. Here are some details if you are interested...

Oh, I'll definitely need one of those. Not too bad on pricing.

Wow..add 4 teeth(11-40 vs 11-36) and add almost $100..SLX 11-26 about $35 but if ya need that 40t, I guess.

32-40 will get me up anything local. 32-36 won't. I think I'm a buyer. Means I could get a 10sp XT RD, a 10sp Deore shifter, this cassette and chain and upgrade from 2x9 to 1x10. My old Jekyll lives on...

Not trying to argue, honest but why not keep the 2by, use a say 26/36 and have a closer ratio rear cogset? 26/32 same as 36/40 plus 36/11 taller gear.

All the duplicative gears and extra shifting? If you can make the switch from 2x10 to 1x10 at a price that doesn't hurt your wallet, I'm in.

And yep, I need a 40T for a lot of the climbing I do. I run and 42T-R/28T-F 1x11 combo on my other MTB's, as I'm not as slim or as in shape as I would like to be. But I can get away a 40T-R/28T-F Combo. I don't need the top end speed on my MTB.

I was about to pull the trigger on that one......I'd love a long term review on it. Yet, I've have been stymied by the prospect of the 40-11 and 42-11 11sp xt cassette sliding on a 10s carrier

Because 1by is in FASHION, Peter! No, actually, it's stupider than that. If I move to 1x10, I can make my son's 1x7 20" MTB into a 1x9 with the old parts. And it does remove a lever from the left hand side, so that can just be dropperific.

Hahaha!

Well, I pulled the trigger on the cassette. If it shifts with precision close to Sram or Shimano, Ill be happy. I've tried the Wolftooth 42T adapters and the 16T replacement cog, and wasn't thrilled with the shifting performance.

Well, obviously having a lever on only one side will create a weight imbalance leading to shimmy, brake chatter and impotence.

Honest question here. Is a single chain ring that good a setup? I haven't ridden a mountain bike since the mid 90's when I had an 8 speed XTR setup on a KHS bike. I lived in San Francisco and would ride over to Mt. Tam for the trails. Having just a single 30t chain ring would have driven me crazy with the lack of gearing.

I've switched to 1x11 on two of my mtbs, and I love it. It's simpler, lighter and depending on the tooth count on your chainring, you can get as much lower range gearing as you can with a 2x or 3x set up. If you go really low, however, you lose your top end. For me, it's no big deal because I'm not racing and don't ordinarily need to pedal my MTB at 25mph plus.

I run either 30T/front with 42T/Rear, and that gives you close to the same gear spread as a 38/26 Front and an 11-36T rear in 2x10 set ups. But you obviously will have wider ratio gaps between gears. If you are willing to live with that, it's great! I think it works really well for MTB. Not so sure it would work so well on road.

I agree. My 11-36 is almost, but not quite enough. An 11-40 is probably perfect for where I ride. The gaps don't bother me at all. The grade and conditions change so quickly, I don't need the perfect cadence, I just need one that keeps me pedaling.

My road bike will stay 2x with a tight cassette.

How long do your chainring and cassette last with a single?

I just switched two bikes over. One has 600 miles on it in the past few months, and has a 28T. The cassette's in great shape. The 28T cog (RaceFace direct mount) is starting to show a few signs of wear. No dropped chains yet, but I will still likely switch the chain ring and the chain very soon, even though the chain is still within spec tolerances, just as a precaution.

HA..funny

Saw a MTB the other day..2 shifters, a dropper lever, a front sus adjust lever, a rear shock adjust lever...cables everywhere..all he needed as a big computer/iphone to make it complete..maybe some lights..and this.
