It's way OT, but it's pretty darn cool. A computer controlled engine warm up demo in the shop. Some of the comments say it's either a Cosworth V-10 or an Arrows V10. Grilled brats anyone?

I was a guest of Benetton in the pits at the Canadian grand prix in montreal
in 2001. ( that was the year Giancarlo Fisichella and teamate Jenson Button
smashed into each other in the first corner, flipping through the gravel
upside down...but i digress)

Just before qualifying, i was standing behind Fisi's car when they started it
like that. I was taking a few pictures, when a tech guy from renault ran
over to me an started yelling at me in french to put my camera away!

The amount of heat coming off the back of the car was unbelievable. Within
about 5 seconds of starting the motor, it felt like someone opened an oven
door. The sound of an f1 car in person is an experience every fan should
have! Come to Montreal soon, it's not going to be on the calender forever,
and it's way better than indy!

There were a number of times at PIR where they would be milling around waiting for us to get off the track during our Tuesday race series. It was a blast getting up close & personal....and hearing those babies fire up.

Very cool!

Back in the mid 70s when I was in the motorcycle bidness, there was a competition called the Trans-Atlantic Road Race series that pitted the best U.S. road racers (factory teams) against the best European road racers in a series of races in England, France and Italy. I traveled this circuit for a couple of years and was in the pits for the engine warm-ups. The dull blatt of the V-twin Harley Davidson engines competing against the insane shrieks of the 4-cylinder Yamaha two-strokes, Kawasaki and Suzuki engines, all at full chat, combined to make my hair crawl and ears bleed, even with hearing protectors on. Geez I miss that!

Bro - That's the sound of freedom. The scene in empire of the sun with the P51's flying over the camp was beautiful...

Is that the Rolls Royce Griffon? Perhaps the best reason (aside from the bikinis) for going to Seafair years ago... the sound of those piston engines.

Excellent clip on the F1 warmup. Wasn't there a Tag Heuer print ad a few years ago that showed Ralf's car under hard braking, and the front disk was glowing hot?

I'm not sure why you guys are wasting your time with this puny @ss wimpy horsepower stuff. Nothing, absolutely nothing can beat the sound of an F-15 doing a Viking take-off.

I had a RM80 two stroke in a GP RS125 frame that we used for endurance racing . That dad-gum engine sounded just like this mp3 clip. Hardest carb to get jetted in the pits!

F1 is the only motor sport that is cool.

Except maybe Superbike motorcycle racing.

And WRC rallying.

It's the RR Merlin engine in a P-51.

Also sounds a lot like the RM50 that was my introduction to motocross. Ring-ding-da-ding-ding-ding-ding... that little bike had nothing until it was spinning 10,000 rpm. Talk about a broad, predictable powerband.

Csm,

I used to go to watkins every year when they still ran F-1. Was quite an event with the racing, the bog, and almost unlimited acess in the old days. Only been there 1 time since F-1 quit going there, no interest in nascar. To show you how old I am I went to summer jam at the track back in 74 or75 ? to see the allman bros.

Ever get out to the Tri-Cities for the cup? Seafair?

F1 is cool, but racing at 150 - 175 mph across an undulating and constantly changing surface with the threat of air getting under the boat and flipping it over always a possibility.....ballsey. Thunder & rooster tails.

Wasn't it Mercedes that Flipped two cars, at speed, at LeMans. That is getting AIR, take that Travis Pastrana, silly motorcycle back flips. Mercedes ended up pulling out of the race that year. Talk about high speed HiJinx! I tried to find a pick but not internet savvy enough.

My son did a little research and the clip appears to be an Orange sponsored Arrows with the A-22 V-10 package.

As cool as the new stuff is back in the good old days, the Matra under Chris Amon was turning about 2K rpms more than any other F1 engine (and in those days 12500 was alot). The sound was surreal and listening to that thing whistling down the back staright at Watkins Glen was the closest thing to audio orgasm one could ever get.

F1 technology rules.

Travis races cars now, his co-driver is Chrisitan who posts here regularly. Watched them race last year here in Oregon. Travis and Chrisitan had a high speed crash last year at 100 mph- they rolled their WRX 10 + times- Travis words from the in car camera-"Holy S#it, what a ride !!" I would have needed new underwear.

F1 racing is just the best !!!
