View Full Version : Possible to chainring swap campy 10/11?

I have a Campagnolo centaur 10s, 170mm compact crankset with the nice machined rings, and I also have a Chorus 11s compact crankset, 172.5mm. I want to swap the cranksets, but would prefer to keep the 10 speed rings with the 10 speed drive train and vice versa. Will the 11s chainrings fit on the 10s spider? Will the 10s chainrings fit on the 11s spider?

I plan to try this when I have some more time to take the cranksets apart, but I figured I'd ask here in case anyone has done this already.

P.S. I have heard that it's OK to run 11 or 10 speed chainrings with 10 or 11 speed chains, but I know that the 11 speed chainrings are narrower and have different ramps.

In case anyone was wondering:

The spider on the campy 11 crankset had smaller holes than the spider for the campy 10 crankset so the swap was a no go.

Yes, yes. As long as both either Campagnolo compact BCD or 135mm BCD.

I did the same thing, put 11s rings onto an old C-Record crank from about 1992.

11s chainrings aren't really narrower but offset closer to each other via the laces where they attach to the spider.

As for the holes, need to keep the chainring bolts..since the holes in the carbon spider are smaller.

Reiterating what OP said... I'm running 10 spd rings on 11 spd (Record Carbon CT) cranks with an otherwise 10spd drivetrain. No problemo.

Yep. I've got 10spd rings on c record cranks
Know a guy with 11spd rings on a 10spd crank
I've seen 11spd rings on an 8spd crank

The important thing is using the correct bolts.

I did a TA Horus ring on the outside to run a 10 sp Chorus 11 speed. Works great.

Does that mean you need to run the torx (11 sp bolts) with the 11 speed spider? The threads are on the inner chainring though. And the 10 sp bolts don't fit the 11 sp spider... This meant that I couldn't have both (10 speed cranks with 11 speed rings AND 11 speed cranks with 10 speed rings).

Yes or get a 11s small ring that doesn't have threads. 2009/10
