I had my LBS install the crank since I did not have the tools. I noticed this today. Is it just loose?

Looks like a dust shield out of place. Push it up against the bottom bracket.
Does the crank arm feel loose?

Is there any lateral play in the crank?

There is a big spring behind the dust shield which makes me think it is loose. No real play that I can tell.

Not tight, should look like below. Needs lotsa grease on spindle, around 'spring/wavy washer'. Big honkin 14mm Allen, tighten till it stops. PowerTorque.

Thank you very much. I think it was tight and worked it's way loose over the last 200 miles. I think I will just go pick up a 14 mm since I have a torque wrench

Another view of the correct crank install appearance, since OP's is at a bit of an angle.

Well Ace hardware only had a 4 pack for 40+ bucks (allen sockets) so I stopped over at my LBS. They were gracious to snug it up. However I will be ordering one asap.

Thanks all!

How many folks use a tork wrench to tighten to spec on external cup BBs and shall I say this is to those who are not using carbon frames.

I do have the Park "socket" for shimano 7800 generation external BBs to use with the torque wrench, but with the newer stuff I just use the Park closed end tool with the adapter...

On the last two builds i have moved back to square taper and do use a torque wrench on those...
