Got to thinking it might be interesting to get an idea of what bikes we currently own, ride, plan to keep, and possibly sell. Which one is your current favorite and why?
NOT just limited to road bikes...

Current Stable:

Dean Duke Soft tail MTB (26") Rarely ride - I associate MTB with pain
Dean El Diente with DA 7800 R
Lemond Zurich with 9sp Ultegra *
Look 585 with Ultegra 6800 R
Look 586 frameset waiting to build -
Louis Garneau Sonix 6.4 with SRAM * On Trainer - so rarely ride :)
Salsa LaCruz disc with 105 R

R - Ride with some regularity
* - Would consider selling

Current Favorite & Why:

Dean El Diente (Ti) - The ride is sooo comfortable. With Cane Creek Volos XL's, it just soaks up chip seal and bumps and is top choice in the rotation. The Dean never beats me up and is an absolute keeper. Weight is right at 18lbs. Black/Ti matches any kit. Has sort of a BMW understated vibe. It edges out the Tangerine Look 585 by a nose.

Currently own three: Serotta Meivici with Dura Ace 7900, C35 wheels. Moots Compact with a mix of 7900 and 7800, C35 wheels. Old school Moots Rigormootis MTB with a Shimano XT 1x10 drivetrain. The Moots Compact is just perfect. Smooth, fits great, and stiff enough. I love the Meivici too, but the Moots just has that "it" factor for me. The Rigormootis is stellar as well. I have the perfect stable for me right now. Matt

My PDG Paramount, had it for many years now. You know how it is when you find that one bike that fits you 100% perfect. I have some new Tektro RL340 silver levers with black hoods and black Cinelli Caleido tape on the way, but I keep this bike pretty close to original, the 105 components at least. Been fighting the urge for a new 5700 group from Merlin, the price is crazy low.

Currently I have

J.P. Weigle Road
Spooky Havocstaff
Rawland Drakkar
Fuji Single Speed

I haven't been ridding as much as I like because my ankle is still bothering me but the bike I have been ridding the most is the Weigle. Could be my favorite but to be honest I like them all for different reasons. The Weigle is comfortable and has all my favorite campy parts.

I only have two in the stable at the moment. Nothing special compared to what my fellow forumites have.

A no name single speed. It's a solid bike and great for winter riding. Have plans of converting it to a
1x something at some point.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/03/555b32be78740952b9bc97e2ec011bc8.jpg

My favorite is a cheapo late 90s Giant Rincon that's been converted to touring/commuter. It's been a pain to dial in (doesn't help that I crashed it the other day), but I love it. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/03/8ee7880e9e4d5a4923b6ad18d86dd495.jpg

I'm looking to pick up a 90s Giant Acapulco from a family member, and maybe my first real road bike. A mid/late 80s Zullo outfitted with Shimano 600.

Like others on this thread, I have two bikes and they both ride well - a DeSalvo and this Roark, which has been my go-to road bike recently. Theoretically, it's not supposed to fit me: I am 6"-0" and it has a 60cm top tube C/C. I set it up with a 90mm +17 degree stem and my contact points are just about perfect. It's super smooth and very, very comfortable. It gave me fits with a persistent creak that was loud and I could not find but then when I put some thick Pedro's grease on the cassette/freehub interface and between all the cogs and spacers it became as quiet as a ghost in the night - an excellent ride that I really like.

I can't chalk up what it is about the tapered fork and wheels vs the frame, but the frame is definitely a bit stiffer without being unduly harsh. The ride definitely isn't as forgiving as the DS, and I still might reach for that as my all-day bike, but the Lobster doesn't have that harsh buzziness that alu that I used to ride in the late 90s was known for. Its pretty fantastic. I wish I had more watts I could put through the thing, because it is the kind of bike that wants to get ridden hard.

I really have a difficult time choosing one over the other. Maybe if you put a gun to my head and told me I can only take one I'd probably choose the Serotta Colorado but then again I can't say for sure. Believe it or not the Soma Stanyan is a sweet frame one of the best all rounders I've ever owned and ridden.

Not to turn this thread into an aluminum lovefest, but I just got a used caad 8 off craigslist. i've been looking for one for a while after regretting selling mine back in 2007. i've only had a couple of rides on it so far, but my memory did serve me well. it's got a nice lively feel, stiff, but not too harsh. it definitely encourages me to push myself. the meivici has become my all day bike and may get a little more of a break this summer which means i might have to consider letting go of the ti rando/travel bike.

My C59 was my favorite last weekend but my Hampsten Ti will be my favorite when I ride tomorrow- both have cured my G.A.S (gear acquisition syndrome). Moving to wider 23-25 wide rims on both was a huge complement as I think it enhances all the + riding characteristics of the two frame materials.

Right now, I have:

Giant Defy (aluminum version)
Seven Elium SLX
Colnago C40 (being built up)

I ride the Seven the most because it is the one that "speaks to me" (mainly because I love the way it looks), but in all honesty the Giant is a hell of a bike. In fact, with the same wheels/tires, it feels more comfortable than the Seven...

I am looking forward to riding the Colnago when I finish building it this weekend. In the meanwhile, here is a picture of the sexy Seven:

Just curious, are you running the same saddle on the Giant? The Romin would always start to beat me up around 40 miles in.

Custom Caver ti does it for me, but my 2010 Specialized Roubaix Pro built up with my parts package runs a very close second and actually wins as a climber. Sold that Fierte IT to elephantino (bike now deceased) and replaced it with my second Roubaix. Never thought I'd like an off the rack carbon more than the vaunted Serotta. Different spokes for different folks.

At the moment, no, but for a long time both bikes had a Specialized Romin, which I find to be a very comfortable saddle even for long distances. Right now the Giant has a Brooks Cambium on it, which I also find to be very comfortable.

I've got a Cannondale EVO Hi-mod which is my all-time favorite bike. I've also got a BMC Race Machine, Santa Cruz Highball 29'er, Brooklyn city bike and a Stevens Prestige CX frame set that I'll probably build up come Aug. Hard to pick one, I ride most of them in a decent rotation but as spring moves into summer and the fast group rides have started getting faster the SV gets the nod more often then the others.
Combination of the fit, the deep wheels and the no nonsense di2 just works when really pushed...

I like variety so I rotate between bikes.

Currently built road bikes:
Richard Sachs
Spectrum
Zanconato
Colnago C40

I'm mostly riding the Sachs these days as it's the newest to me. Lively with wonderful handling, though a bit twitchier then I'm used to. The Boras are probably a big part of that too. The C40 handles very differently, while the Spectrum and Zanconato are wonderfully stable all-day bikes.

Yeah, I reserve the right to change my vote after my Sachs arrives later this year!

But for now, I own
- a 2010 custom Strong (TIG-welded steel, ENVE carbon fork, S&S couplers, Ultegra 6700, DT Swiss wheels)
- a 2006 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 2 (all CF, mostly Ultegra 6600 w/ a DuraAce rd and FSA carbon cranks, DT Swiss wheels)
- a 1985 Bridgestone 600 (lugged 4130 steel, DT friction shifters, a mix of original Suntour components and modern Shimano 105/FSA, handbuilt 36-spoke wheels on original 126mm hubs)

The Strong is definitely my favorite, duh.

And my Merckx.

I love my Merckx because it's my first race bike that I've felt really fits me/handles the way I want a road bike to handle in a race. My Circle A will always be special to me but it's not a race bike and isn't quite as fun on the short lunch time hammer rides I've found myself doing lately. I don't love its handling for crits either. I'd still grab it for a 100 mile ride with lots of climbing, though.

I dunno, is it?

My Colnago is the bike I'd be most afraid to replace because I'm not sure any other pure carbon fiber road bike will be as nice. It gets the most miles.

My Hampsten is my prettiest and most versatile bike by a long shot. It gets the second most miles.

My Zanconato CX bike is my best handling bike, but a pure cx race bike.

My Cannondale Jekyll is the most fun because mountain biking is the most fun solo riding there is. It gets the most hours.

But my tandem is my favorite because we can enjoy rides as a family.

Curious question:

Isn't the "favorite" bike also the one that gets the most miles or ridden most often?

Let our legs do the talkin'.

Don't forget about the heart.

My "favorite" is my Tommasini Tecno but it has sentimental value and component selection that limits its use.
-it's one of my favorite frames made
-it was my father's before it was mine. He gifted it to me when health limited him
-it is set up with some of my favorite components that are difficult to replace
-the delta brakes only clear a 23 mm tire.

Despite ridding like a dream, I'm selective about traveling with it and reserve it for nice roads and weather. I may not ride it as much as some think I should, but I hope it's still around to ride in 30 more years. It is more heirloom than tool and I'm ok with that.

My colnago gets the most miles. Riding it through ditches, rain and gravel doesn't bother me. it is a nice bike that only holds some monetary value. It can be replaced and I don't worry. That is precisely what it is for.

Salsa Vaya Ti - can ride it anywhere without worrying about beating up the bike. Weighs 25 lbs so gives extra bang for the training buck.

On the subject of Aluminum, the Rock Lobster and my Peg 8:30AM prove that if the designer is not obsessed with shaving down the weight, then AL can ride as well, and better in my opinion, than steel. They're both metal and respond to stress same (isotropically/linearly), with different inherent stiffness - AL is 1/3 as stiff as steel and about that ratio for weight. But the numbers and structural dynamics work out that you can get a bike with (almost) steel-like compliance, improved stiffness and feeling of response, and a small weight benefit over steel. Twas what happened when Signor P. designed his AL bikes to ride like the Marcelo. Not the exact same ride (they'll vibe a bit differently), but very close and ~1/2 lb lighter for the AL models. Shave that down to 1.5 lbs lighter (to reduce a 4 lb steel frame to 2.5 of aluminum) and you'll get something much different.

Current favorite is easy to pick from when the number of choices for road bikes is one! But with all the good fortune and discrimination for the one solitary choice to be an Eriksen. Even in town, I have have not seen another and other CP poseurs, such as I count myself, have commented to the same.

My current stable:

Pinarello Dogma FP AK61 (the magnesium one)
Lemond Maillot Jaune - Team Z bike
Bianchi FG Lite - Cipo's bike
Colnago C50

The C50 is my current favorite as it does all the things all the other bikes do, but in one package. It's super stable, solid, and handles exceptionally well. Power transfer is great and although some have claimed it can flex, it's never been an issue with me.

I just moved out another 10mm to a 130 stem and switched to an offset seatpost and the fit is perfect. I typically ride it with Nemesis/Chorus wheels as they're a lot more forgiving than the Boras, but the Nemesis definitely don't complete the look and appear as sinister.

The Dogma is a very close 2nd.....

Wow....some really nice hardware on the forum.....well thought out bikes that represent bikes that actually get ridden and are set up to be real world bikes as opposed to racer want-to-be's.

I have two Serotta's: the first is a Fierte IT that is just a bit too big for me, but the Concours fits like a glove. The attached pic shows it with the Pacenti's that Echelon John built and are great wheels. Very soon it will have a new set of HED/WI 24/28 tubulars. The Concours get's almost all of my riding time....it brings a smile to my face every time I get on it.

HaHa! I take no insult to the riposte in your reply nor am I obtuse to the content and direction of its remark. Finally, the verbal retaliation in the phrase "racer want-to-be's" in response of "stems too short".

I think Craig G. popularized the inflammatory phrase "stems too short" which I always found comical and completely amiss of the mark. I have never met Craig in person and know him only as a phone customer when he was at IBC. But he rides a very large sized bike from what he has posted on the web. So from a proportional basis relative to his height I always thought the guy that always tweaked the nose of everyday riders for their "stem's too short" himself actually rode a bike whose stem was too short! I don't think anyone else got the irony and the farce in the theatrics and pretense of that entire playhouse during that time. There was an thread long ago about whether fit was an art or a science in this forum's predecessor where the farce was in full swing by all the major players! Such posturing!

All setups are good. It is all done in service of the ride. My particular setup, evidenced by my Eriksen, is a real world setup. I will be riding this setup long after many will have destroyed their backs in the macho stubbornness to ride EuroPro by brute force rather than fundamentals of fit & balance.

All setups are good. It is all done in service of the ride.

Different tools for different tasks. Stable currently sits at three functioning bikes:
'84 Centurion Elite GT. This is my commuter. Just finished (as of an hour ago) converting it to 700c wheels/9speed rear. Can't wait to get some miles on it.
Commuting falls to this one. Limestone trails. Pretty much any riding where I anticipate sloppy/dirty riding.
'85 Torpado Super Strada. Campy Chorus 9speed/racing triple. Long road rides with hills, this is the tool I choose.
'80 ('81?) Merckx Professional. I have not had it together long since acquiring it and having it repainted. Currently sporting Chorus 9 drivetrain, Mirage brifters, Veloce monoplanars, and Proton wheels. If the mood for some spirited riding strikes, this is the one to take.

Thanks, guys. This bike is a dream...looks great, and rides even better!

That's an old Stronglight 50.4BCD crankset. I don't know the exact model. It's something the builder, Travis Cooper (http://www.cyclescooper.com/), had on hand. I like the TA cranks a little more because they look cool with the black sticker on the crankarms, but the Stronglight is very similar and very beautiful!

I tried to detail the bike on this thread (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?p=1579225#post1579225).

I've changed a few things (mostly related to braking) since the photos were taken. And I'm awaiting a custom stem from Travis to "complete" the bike. Right now I have Grand Bois randonneur bars and their stem. I'll be switching to Noodle bars.

Eventually, I'd also like a couple more wheelsets. One with A23s (or similar) for everyday duty that will feel quicker than the Dyads I have now and another with tubulars for fast rides.

Smooth, springy, fast, tremendous handling. I could go on… and on.

My Niner Jet 9 or my 1980 McLean.

Just depends if I go to Theodore Worth by my house for its cool mtb trails or I am on the local streets.

I can't get the pics of the Niner to download but here's the McLean the day I brought it home.

For the past two years, this has seen almost daily usage. Not only does it allow me to spend a lot of time with my boys, it also makes me a stronger rider. Take that thing out for a couple of hours and even your heaviest townie feels light.

Rotor cranksets are just so damn sexy. We just took a set off a bike that we're parting out and I'm damn tempted to throw them on the look instead of the Centaur cranks on there now.

So I just haven't been reaching for the road bike lately. All summer I've been riding my 29er off road. Maybe it is all the auto accidents, maybe I just came back around to off-road. I'll tell you this, Mike Zanconato builds a nice bike. Maybe once I get another set of road tubeless wheels I'll start pulling the Firefly off the peg, these goatheads in Albuquerque are no joke. Must have pulled 20 of them out of my tubeless MTB tire, I don't think my road wheel would have fared as well.

I've got a total of 5 bikes in my stable, but my favorite is my Pivot Mach 429SL. It climbs like it's on steroids and punches above its weight on tough, technical descents. The suspension has 100mm of travel in the rear and 120mm of travel up front. I picked it up in March of this year, and have about 700 mtb miles on it so far.

A couple of custom touches include hand-built wheels with Nox Composites Teocalli 29 rims, Industry Nine Torch hubs and Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes (1510g for the build including rim strips and valves). I also commissioned custom decals for the suspension. It weighs a little over 24lbs including pedals and the 150mm KS Lev Integra dropper post.

Other details include:
Sram XX1 shifter, derailleur, cassette and chain
Sram Guide RSL brakes/rotors
Race Face Next SL cassette w/28T direct mount chainring
Pivot Carbon bars (740mm wide)
Syntace Force 109 stem (80mm)
WTB Volt Team saddle

Love my C59 and after years of building all of my own wheels, my Bora Ultra 2's are running away my favorites. Thinking of adding a set of Bora Ultra 35's (the new wider tubbies) to the wheel quiver.

I'm enjoying my new C60... really like the wheels.

The Elium SLX is on my frame bucket list!! Beautiful bike!!!
