View Full Version : Bicycle Storage--possibly FastTrack question...

I'm finally back at the project of finishing up a little space outside our laundry room.

I picked up the FastTrack at Home Despot after reading this thread (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=165508&highlight=storage)--and then thought a little more--my space is not deep enough to hang the bikes square to the wall.

Can you angle the bikes using the standard FastTrack bike hooks?

Or, has anyone come up with a wall-mounted solution that lets you angle the bikes?

(I found this Steadyrack on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004N9BUEY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=TP7D5HVA3SOK&coliid=I3AVUINKOON1D5&psc=1) that does let you angle the bikes--but it is a bit spendy at $75/bike...)

I saw something at REI I forget what it's called that allows the mount to rotate so you can almost fold the bike flat against the wall. I don't think the fast track allows it to angle at all. At least it doesn't with any of the attachments I have (non-bike).

Feedback velo hinge (http://www.jensonusa.com/Feedback-Velo-Hinge-Bicycle-Wall-Rack). I use them and they work pretty good. My only complaint is that you have to buy a longer hook separate if you want to mount deep wheeled or mt bikes.

Thanks for that--I saw those once before--and forgot. D@mn this getting old stuff...

Anyone know if this will work reasonably well if you hang from the back wheel?

you can't do anything with the hooks but you can get creative with how you mount the track.

i looked into doing just that, but was too lazy to do all the cuts.

basically, you cut the track into multiple segments (say, 6-7" long) and create a mounting bracket with 2x4 or 2x6 (whatever fits your needs) and create an angle of 45 degrees or whatever fits your needs. then screw the track onto that angle.

graphically, the 2x4 would look something like this, and the track pieces (and hooks) would be mounted on whatever side of the triangle worked for your space:

__^__^__^__^__^__

think of a staircase joist, that's what i'm trying to convey.

Works fine... easier to stagger them that way as well.

I might consider it if I had access to the power hacksaw at my dad's shop...

But my space is also so limited, I think I will pick up about 4 of the Velo hinges--that will get the important bikes out of the way, and let them swing them into the wall.

Thanks all--appreciate the information and help.
