I have always loved The Museum of Science and Industry. What are your interests besides cycling?

We love checking out cities, being outdoors, taking in the flavor of the town. Pretty much open to anything and just enjoying some downtime in a new city!

The Art Institute Museum, Cloud Gate, and Robie House are musts in my book. In fact, as much Frank Lloyd Wright tourism as possible, if you are so inclined.

I would google Pilsen, Bridgeport, Hyde Park, Humboldt Park, Bucktown, Lincoln Park, Roscoe Village, Andersonville, and see what interests you. I know I didn't mention the obvious tourist destinations, but these neighborhoods are a good depiction of Chicago when it works for most of its inhabitants.

we do have some great museums here.
Art Institute, Museum of Science and Industry, MCA, MCP, and so on.
Millenium Park, Grant Park, Lincoln Park, Lakefront path.
Walking in the neighborhoods can be good, watering holes and food. There's a lot of variety, and all the 'good' neighborhoods aren't necessarily clustered together.

Haven't visited the 1st, but I agree with the last 3 of these suggestions.

Also you can visit Cycle Smithy, an iconic shop a few blocks from the lake:

I'll second robie house and add oak park for walking tour and flw house visit and tour.

For robie house take express bus not subway.

For a good meal longman and eagle.

I'll second the suggestion for Cycle Smithy. just to look at all the cool vintage/collector stuff hanging from the ceiling and walls.

Definitely the architecture boat tour. If dates work, maybe also put together a picnic dinner and take in an outdoor concert in Grant Park:

If you go to walk Oak Park I recommend you press on to the Village Of Riverside. It is like a Currier and Ives etching with gas street lamps and curving streets. It was laid out by Frederick Law Olmstead who also did Central Park. OK, you are now on the west side so you might as well go to Czech Plaza or Klas for a real Bohemian (Czech) meal so inexpensive you will think there must be a mistake on your bill.

Chicago "loaded" hot dog "dragged through the garden". Italian Beef sandwich.

Ordering tips:

"Gimme a dog with everything"
or
"Gimme a beef, hot"

Don't be like my wife, who walked up to the counter and said "can I have a Chicago Style hot dog"......

At least she didn't order ketchup. :)

Signature Room in the John Hancock building for a drink at night and if you're still there on Sunday, for brunch. Fabulous view!

What are you guys into?

Chicago (land) is a big place with loads of things to do. Where are you staying? Bringing bikes? Have a car?

Drink beer? etc.

If you are staying downtown...get out of downtown and see some other parts of the city.

Should be a great weekend here. Need bike stuff? Come see me at TURIN 4710 N Damen.

Have a great trip.

Signature Room in the John Hancock building for a drink at night and if you're still there on Sunday, for brunch. Fabulous view!

aka the top o' the 'cock...good view, paid for by the expensive drinks.

good views also from the restaurant at the top of Lake Point Tower, the only skyscraper east of Lake Shore Drive. Yes, it spins. Unique high vantage cityscape/lake view. If you're in a 3-leaf clover shaped building with no spinning restaurant, you're in Fake Point Tower.

ground level view of city - Shedd Aquarium/Adler Planetarium

Lakefront walk - start at Navy Pier/lake point tower and head north along the water

Beach - oak street beach...if you don't like the crowds and summer vacationing suburban kids then keep going north. Stop if you've reached Winnetka.

cool campus - Northwestern U

cool t-shirt - the art institute's with all the signatures

dinosaur bones and egyptian relics: field museum

classic homes: Gold Coast (near the lake)

Second the rec for getting Bohemian food...esp if you're a fan of duck or pork....and giant slices of boiled bread and mysterious brown sauce :)

and deep dish (should be able to find a Uno/Due (the originals), Gino's, Gino's East, Lou Malnati's, Gioradano's/Edwardo's)...if you like sausage get it patty style

dim sum - three happiness in chinatown

best sub sandwich...the italian U-boat....oh wait, nevermind, this isn't the 1980's.

flaming, cheesy greek - diana's opaa (edit: crap, closed...can get your flaming cheese/cheesy decor elsewhere in greektown)

twin anchors for ribs?

touristy place still worth going - ed debevic's (hot doug's closed??)

test your self esteem - Wiener's Circle

underage nightclub scene - excalibur?

outdoor bar scene - Rush Street north of the water tower

the relish on your hot dog is supposed to be that color....

question marks on some recs because it's been a long time since growing up there...

bleachers at a cubs game...ride the EL from the Loop to get there (get off at addison)

the neighborhoods...bucktown, etc...

lower/upper wacker drive to relive the blues brothers chase scenes...

and the museum of science and industry which made me the geek i am today.
