I made a pilgrimage to Colorado last week to cross an item off my bucket list: seeing a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater. We flew in Wednesday, stayed in Boulder, and flew home Thursday night.

While there on Wednesday we poked around Boulder and I happened upon Vecchio's. I remember them for their reputation for building great wheels but had forgotten about them being in Boulder and it was just happenstance they were located across the street from Pizzeria Locale, a fine purveyor of Neapolitan style pizza, which we had selected from TripAdvisor as our lunch stop.

Anyway, long story short, Vecchio's is a tremendous shop. Lots of beautiful bicycles. Some for sale. Some up on the wall as art. Many I would buy with no modification (which is highly unusual). My favorite, which I tried to suggest to my son would be a great gift for father's day which would help me forgot all the years of forgotten father's days, was a beautiful blue Waterford frame set up as a commuter.

Alas, given I have too many things so all I could justify buying was this fine chapeau which, in the store, I would take off to signify my respect for a fine bike shop.

Seems to me, someone on these forums used to know a guy who worked there....

Yeah. I think they tout themselves as Colorado's Shimano Specialists! :)

My understanding is that they are the western distribution center for SRAM, no?

That's my understanding - SRAM on Trek and Specialized - only with ZIPP clinchers, too.

Anything else would be verboten at that shop.

What that shop really needs is a small tattoo parlor in the back. Nothing but bike tattoos.

Home is Austin, TX.

Show was Courtney Barnett, Spoon, & The Decemberists and it was phenomenal. The venue, even after being built up in my mind for many years, exceeded all expectations.

I did sneak out very early Thursday and do the short ride from my hotel to the fire station on flagstaff mountain (much of which is a city of Boulder park). That too was awesome.

I thought the decision to only sell unicycles and recumbents was an odd one, but it seems to be working for the new Vecchios.

No, we are a long way from there. The old spud is only simmering, we need to get to full baked before we close the thread.

Will they also do motorcyclist tattoos?

Doubt that, but word is they have SRAM's warranty department on speed dial.

Yea - that guy said I really need to upgrade to disc brakes or my bike was virtually un-rideable.

(but I do recall chatting him up about his classic Rolex a few years ago, being a watch nerd, myself)
