Once a year the calendar honors that cool British-made butted tubing...on 5/31. It may not be quite as cool as Columbus Day--we've got to wait til October for that--but it's fun nonetheless.

(And yes, I know it's pronounced Five...Three...One, but hell Greg LeMond and Lance couldn't pronounce Tour de France either.)

Fun link to a little history

Ha. Good to know we have another holiday. Too bad there's no 6/31, 7/53, or 8/53. Calendar clearly needs adjustment. This one has been sitting here for months waiting patiently for new wheels. Maybe by Columbus day....

Credit to Avincent52 for thinking of it, and for a great song reference regardless.

Not at all, bigbill. Have a bedroom full of Waterfords, including a W-13, built with Reynolds mang/moly. Rode one today...An X-11.

On what day do we celebrate Hi-Ten steel?

My first road bike was a Mercian KOM with 531c. I was more mediumbill back then. I moved to the left on the next bike, a Raleigh 753. I think my first Chromoly bike was the MX Leader that I still have.

MX Leader isn't CrMo. It's Nivacrom, which unsurprisingly includes Nickel and Vanadium.

At the risk of offending the Paceline etiquette police, you guys should stop ordering the Big Mac at Burger King.

I thought Cr-Mo day was April 1, 1930 (4130?!).

5/31 will work though..

Mea culpa. That's what I get for relying on my memory about something I learned when I was 11.
And in full disclosure, "531 Day" popped up on my Facebook feed IIRC, earlier today.
It was mostly a way to pad my post count so I can reply to classified ads.
Thanks for the education and I'll try to me more careful the next time.

I was surprised to find that my 75 Norton motorcycle frame also came with a 531 Reynolds decal. Were 531 decals used on other products besides bikes and motorcycles?

CrMo and MnMo are used in all sorts of lightweight structures that are built from tubular steel - bicycle and motorcycle frames, race car roll cages, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to hear there are some home built planes with 5-3-1 frames.

Bro, I delighted in your calendrical alignment and see now my terse response should have reflected that.

Good luck with your sale!
