Can 9000 shift and brake cables be used in 7900 housing? Any disadvantage? I thought I remember some mechanic saying 9000 housing was a different diameter or stiffness or something.. but I can find no specs on the webz.

If it installs okay with no binding, I am sure it will be fine.

IIRC the main complaint the I heard was that the special coating on the DA9000 cable could fray and cause excess friction while shifting. I don't know if that has been addressed by Shimano.

When used with non-9000 housing? It seems to fray even WITH 9000 housing
