For the fourth time in my life, I got two flats while out on a ride. I'm prepared, but that second one will end the ride right there.
And, for the fourth time in my life, I stuck out my thumb and within 5 minutes someone stopped, loaded sweaty me & my bike into their nice, clean BMW/Mercedes/Escort/Truck and drove me all the way to my house.
I've been hit twice, so I know not everyone is this aware of us, but there are those who pitch in when needed. And today, it was really needed.

Do you ride tubulars? Why will having a second flat end your ride if you are prepared?

I've always thought that if I had to, I'd just hit up Uber to get me home...:bike:

Nice story. Lots of good people out there.
Unfortunately it only takes one bad driver to cause a lot of harm, so they get all the attention.

No, I carry a tube, tools & pump. If I get more than one flat on a ride, I take it as a sign from whoever sends you signs that it's time to go home. I will be putting at least a cab company in my phone from now on.

A real cyclist would ride home on the rim!

If you can't afford to do that, then your wheels are too expensive.

because most of us only carry one tube, and a lot of the time a catastrophic flat that is bad won't be patchable.

I ride clinchers and the last flat I got knocked the wheel around enough that I wasn't getting home. I got picked up by a sightseeing couple and dropped off at the nearest bike shop, they couldn't fix it, so I ended up getting the rest of the way home via Lyft.

Another time I was doing a MTB race and ripped my entire tire open on a really sharp rock. I thumbed a ride, ended up in a BMW convertible with a fairly nutty dude, and got a ride back to the bar where the largest mug of IPA I've ever seen was waiting for me from the promoter (Superpro's Murphy Mack of recent Bicycle magazine fame)

It was a LONG walk to the road that day to even pick up a ride, but it happened.

I was surprised.
I mean...
would YOU pick up *THIS* dude? (from the same instant, to show to my family later how hard it would be for me to get a ride looking as silly as I did)

Prepared is a spare.tube and a patch kit, with at least three patches. Happy to hear you got a ride. :)

When I rode tubed tires, I always carried patches. If I carried a tube at all, it was backup to patches. With the Park GP-2, you've got up to 6 flats per ride, and the kit weighs like 10g

People don't care if you look silly... they just care if you look serial-killer. Cyclists do not serial-killers make.

I finally took mine out of my bag. I have never once had one of those peel-and-stick patches hold up for longer than 100 feet. Maybe they work better on low-pressure tires.

2 tubes, two CO2 cartridges and an inflator, a small Park clueless patch kit and a Park tire boot. It all fits in my Arundel Dual saddle bad with a small multi tool.

Why not two tubes & 6 patches? Carry a chain tool? Spare spokes? Lube? First aid kit? Spare saddle in case a rail breaks? That would be prepared.
I don't live or ride out in the boonies. I'm prepared for what would be normal issues. 4 times in 30+ years of riding? I can't tell you how many times I've gotten one flat and been fine. I have what I need to change a tube. I'm prepared for my area.
Anyway, the point of the post was to remind us that there are good drivers who don't hate us & are willing to lend a hand out there.

Was riding through a national forest and broke my front wheel (had a choice between eating pavement and going offroad into mud...i chose mud). Nice couple in an SUV stopped, loaded my muddy bike (and my muddy self) into a car and took me to the nearest store so I could contact my friends.

I never had one fail at 120psi.. many, many long-distance commute patches applied
