Yes, and what was thought to be a harmless experiment would soon subsume all life as we know it. The end of conceptual, contemplative, projective thoughts and ideas. Replaced by the here and now of limited experiential existence. And yet through it all, peace descended and reigned upon all the land as all life was reduced to commonality of the immediate "duh".
