Pink.

And gumwall tires.

Seramount

yep, the gray / white / black is pretty bland.

I'd lose the white tires and play with bar tape/bottles in lime green, fluoro orange, purple, yellow...

Pink.

And gumwall tires.

Pink or any other bright color would work. As would gray or silver.

The tires are the real problem here. They really should be tan.

I am not changing the tires.. every single time I ride this bike two or three people tell me how great it looks..

I was just poking. It is a great looking bike. Throw on some bright bottles and enjoy.

Well today three people have told you they need to be changed, so let's keep it up daily and it'll be a tie :)

And while we're at it, get a titanium stem!!

And to clarify, yes, I'm poking as well. I remember a lot of deliberation on your IF vs. Seven thread and I'm glad you're happy with the result. Nicely proportioned bike and raw Ti is always a winner.

What was the question? I was distracted by the hideous tires. I hope those were 80% off in the "Dollar" bin.

clear bottles from a local shop is appropriate. isn't there a rule (http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/) about this?

the white tires are fugly.

shorts and tires should be black, preferably dark black.

Sadly, you can say that without a trace of embarrassment.

Both of you need to go ride some more. If when you return you still care what color the tires and water bottles are, you didn't go far enough.

Personally, I'm embarrassed that I clicked on the thread, and moreso that I just couldn't let it go.

Gum wall for life

All tires should have sidewalls that are some shade of tan or brown.

Sadly, you can say that without a trace of embarrassment.

Maybe this place isn't for you.

When you can pick something like color with no sacrifice to price, performance or durability, why wouldn't you go with what looks good?

why would it be embarrassing to have an opinion regarding aesthetics...?

some things are pleasing to one's eyes, others aren't.

pretty sure we know who needs to go ride a little.

Couldn't agree more. We all have opinions on aesthetics and while we will all never agree, people here are respectful of others tastes not matter how different.

Maybe he-who-needs-to-ride-more needs to ride more to knock the self-righteous out of him. Of course, just my opinion

To the haters .. I was particularly asking about water bottles , hoping that a few had experienced the same dilemma and come up with some answers. I was not inviting a stream of invective aimed at my tire choice. I ran Michelin white wall Pro4 tires on my Merlin too and that bike was also very popular. I live in NYC, not a place particularly recognized for the delicate politesse of its inhabitants. I think if Sandys theory that 3 people hate the tires on this board holds any water then I could have expected to hear negative comments over the last few years. I am happy to say that I have never heard one.

I will put this down to the quality of the photograph. Indeed Sandys the seat post is a Firefly Ti. And BTW the saddle is now a San Marco Aspide.

Was hoping someone new about some cool looking bottles that I am hitherto unaware of.
I ride about 200 miles a week but yeah I do care what things look like. EVERYONE does.

Not the best photo, but you want to see what naked ti looks like with pink bottles - here you go. Oh, and FYI - mine is a polished finish, too. Also, I kid of don't use the pink anymore, doesn't really give it all that much - apply a rapha photo filter and it looks cool - real world not as much. So now I go with a light grey bottle and it looks fine.

Oh, and wicked tan wall tire guy myself (veloflex) - however, silver brake track and it just doesn't look so great. Silver and tan - kinda don't work. Right now I got the bike with 28 hole DT lables-removed rims, silver spokes and black tires and grey bottles. I think it looks better than the pic below - will try to get something up tomorrow.

Bro, come on. Chill out. It's cool - it's not like these fellow board members looked at a picture of your kid and said "···, his left eye is bigger than his right eye. And get him some dental work."

You asked a suggestion - you got suggestions and some went after other items.

People comment on my pink bottles - they are PINK!! Of course they should comment. I take it in jest.

Honestly, in my view - colored tires and colored cables completely leave anyone open to comment. I got colored tires once, my wife looked at it and said "no, just no, take them off now." Me saying I saved money by getting them had no pull - ride 'em and go with it.

You can't ask for input and suggestions on the internet and then get mad when the suggestions input don't totally meet your requirements - you expect that and you'll be disappointed a lot.

It's all cool

1. All Photos are drive side facing - yours is not
2. Cranks at 9 and 3 o'clock, preferably in the big cookie - yours is like 6:30 and 12:30
3. Nut up and cut the steerer tube
4. The camo fork thing aint my bag, but I can go with it
5. A red cap on a clear bottle, if you say so. . . .
6. You must be a team leader getting bottle handouts with no seat tube bottle holder (on a positive note you did put your one bottle holder on the proper mount)

* I posted my bare ti, so feel free to pick apart ; ) - all seriousness, that bike is ballers. But drive side out ; )

UKBROOKLYN's threads are pretty much all like this - you know, ask trivial question, respond angrily to reasonable answers. It's sort of his schtick. Not sure why as he's a lovely person in person.

As for me, I'll stand by what I said and I'd say it in person. Lovely bike but those tires make me cry. They make gumwalls...

Velomonkey makes some very good points. I actually broke that stem the day the picture was taken. Steve Potts is making me a new Ti stem. I will nut up and cut that fork then, I promise. Regarding the big ring I live on a hill with a 17% grade. Putting it in the big ring is a bit of an effort for a photo opportunity.

White sidewalls do look like gum after a couple good rides over northern westchester dirt.

i probably own 30+ water bottles. they're strewn about the house, garage and basement completely haphazardly. when it comes time to ride, i usually just try and locate two that have the least amount of mold growing in them that i can put my hands on quickly.

i concur that clear bottles are good because you can see just how dirty they get inside quickly, from a purely practical standpoint. turns out that riding on the weekends, and leaving your bike in the humid garage all week with sports drink in the bottles is not the best hygienic decision, yet i repeat that cycle almost weekly.

oh, and hooray for Ti bikes with gumwall tires.

Your tires, bottles, and bar tape are all competing against each other. Nitpicking but the IF crown on the ST looks like an afterthought or a mistake. Since your seatpost is Ti let it be special and go with black bar tape and tan sidewall tires or black. Then you can go any direction you want with your bottles but since your build is pretty straightforward I would go with loud & proud bidons that pop to contrast with the classic raw frame. Get it dialed and then fcuk it up a little.

05-24-2015, 03:34 PM
I vote for red bottles to add some color and go with the decals and red accents on the cranks, derailleur etc. The Sriracha bottle above is pretty rad. Bar tape should be changed to black, or saddle should be changed to white.

Unbrooklyn, I think you need to highlight the few red accents on the bike - bar tape would clash with the tires, so just the bottles? I think the Sriracha bottles would be too orange.
