I am interning here this summer, and am considering having a shop assemble the bike for me (haven't decided either way, will probably do some more research and make a decision).
Should I choose to have a shop do the work, is there anyone local that had somebody they could recommend?

In the downtown Raleigh area, check out Oak City Cycles.
In N. Raleigh, TLC for Bikes.

I had actually emailed Oakcity just after I posted this. Their rate was very reasonable (quoted between $120-150).
Glad to see someone suggest them!

Cycle Surgeon (http://carycyclesurgeon.com/Home.shtml) is another small shop with a top tier mechanic. Almost 5 years with 30k+ miles and my drive train (Shimano of course) has been flawless since he built it up.
With regards to Oak City, I believe they will also rent you a space with bike stand if you want to build your own bike. Its an option.

I trust Frank at http://www.frankscyclery.com/ , but his turnaround time is usually fairly long.
I've heard nothing but good things about cycle surgeon, though i haven't used him myself.

As a side rant... I see no excuse for shops persistently keeping a week turnaround time. If you can maintain a week, you can maintain one day. You have simply chosen not to. As a result, they don't get my business.
If I could drop a bike off and have it back quickly, I'd give these shops a lot more business. As it is, they get none.... and I hate working on bikes.

Cycle surgeon said his turnaround would be 1-2 days, and his rate was also very reasonable. I will probably go with him should I choose to pay a professional.
Thanks for the suggestions!
