That's certainly bright - the oil tankers are sure to give you the 3' mandated by law... ;)

Meh. A friend built one from wood. It's as beautiful as on old Chris Craft.

What model is that? I just looked at the site and those guys are pretty cool. I know exactly zero about kayaks but anyone making handmade stuff here in the US is OK by me.

I hope it's everything you hoped for when you ordered it.

Thanks for the update.

We have two Current Designs "Isles" at our cabin and I can't imagine having any more fun on the water.

I love your color choice.

Ours are yellow as well. :)

One I built using ballistic nylon. Stealth looking!

I think that kayak looks great, plus I'm from Maine originally so a little biased towards Maine-made things. My wife and I have a couple of current designs kayaks and love them - it's amazing the difference between a good sea kayak and ones that aren't so good - I always had cheap plastic ones and then tried a nice fiberglass one and made the switch and just enjoy it more with a nice boat.

A stupid question from someone who's only been in a sea kayak once:

Assuming you're on a huge lake (not the ocean) but with no serious wind or waves, what's a "kayaking distance" that would be equivalent to the effort one would expend for a 50 mile rolling hill bike ride with no horrible winds?

In a nice long boat just cruising, 3 to 4 MPH, so equivalent would be say 12 miles?

Technique is key, can see tiny women outpacing weight lifters with minimal effort. Worth watching videos or a good paddler in the water to see how to make one more efficient.

Here is a good guide (and website) http://www.nspn.org/trip-levels/

Words on the wall asked earlier in this thread: " There I was..." A little inside joke with the staff.
