Hi Campy experts. I have a friend looking to refresh Campy triple group.

Will a modern set of 11s Athena triple mechs and shifters jive well with a Sugino touring triple with 48/36/24 10s TA rings?

Basically, are current Campy shifters "indexed" on the front or "ratcheted" like they used to be?

Front shifter for 11 speed triple Athena Power Shift shifters are "indexed" to Athena triple rings, and may not work well with 9-10 speed triple cranksets.

For the opposite....I have a 2010 10 speed Ultra Shift that works with triples, and I believe I could make it work with a 11's Athena Triple crankset, the shifter kinda ratchets a click at a time. But not sure how well.

UT, LH shifter has only 7 clicks and it works best with an older, 2006 and older, triple front der as it has a longer 'arm' and will cover all 3 chainrings. A current Athena triple front der may not. Powershift Athena(11s) triple will not play well with a 10s spaced crank..

ive got two workarounds...

Gut the ergo and run a downtube front

Use 11spd bar ends with TRP rrl brake levers

My alloy 10 spd. Chorus shifters worked very well with Racing Triple front derailer and 10 spd. TA Zephyr 48-38-28.

No experience (?) with the new Athena triple shifters... but I think the current triple are the same as the 2012 double/triple Athena shifter (before they made two different versions).

I currently have my shifter pushing a current Centaur FD on a 10speed Campy compact double.

Previously, I had the Athena11 pushing a 105 FD on a 9speed Shimano triple. In both cases, I'm running a 9speed KMC chain...

Shifting was actually a bit better with the 9speed Shimano parts... I think shifting was better because I had move available clicks with the wider FD movement and I had a little more room to fine tune cable tension.

I'd say your proposal will certainly work; you won't know the quality of shifting until you get it set up.
